I still see Freepers who deliberately confuse food assistance with welfare cash programs.

They are both funded on EBT cards but you cannot withdraw cash when getting food assistance.

Are there abuses by people who get cash assistance? Sure but that’s human nature.

Poor people aren’t saints they are as human as the rest of us.
>

Incredulously, I still see freepers confuse govt theft, and infringement of Rights, as ‘charity’, let alone a proper function\authority of govt.

SNAP is food and EBT is pretty much anything they want.

A database of 200 million Electronic Benefit Transfer records from January 2011 to July 2012, obtained by The Post through a Freedom of Information request, showed welfare recipients using their EBT cards to make dozens of cash withdrawals at ATMs inside Hank’s Saloon in Brooklyn; the Blue Door Video porn shop in the East Village; The Anchor, a sleek SoHo lounge; the Patriot Saloon in TriBeCa; and Drinks Galore, a liquor distributor in The Bronx.

Yet, again, govt KNOWS, yet chooses not to do a *DAMN* thing.

Just goes to show, SHOULD the Constitution be adhered\followed, these ‘issue\problem(s)’ go “buh-bye”. Few, if any, would care how property, VOLUNTARILY given, is utilized.

Because it will show the masses how many people are on the dole. We used to have soup kitchens. You could “see” who was in line. You could “see” who went to welfare office to get food.

Maybe they should designate a checkout or two as "EBT line".

Those EBT cards are perfectly designed for corruption. They can be converted to virtually anything.

Often stolen, sold for 50 cents on the dollar to pay for cigs, booze and drugs.

Because it was and is not about helping people and Christian altruism. It was always and is about control of the levers of power over other people.

Liberals are horrible people.

In the late 50’s and early 60’s recipients had to visit government food facilities for their food requirements. There was powdered milk, powdered eggs and canned vegetables. There were no chips, drinks, feminine hygiene products, condoms, etc. You did not have a new TV, no phone (Up yours Obama), and little assistance. You worked or life was very uncomfortable.Bring It Back!!!!!!

The EBT card is an account consolidating various programs.
SNAP (Food Stamps) can only legally be used for food.
TANF and others are “cash”.
They are different accounts attached to the same card.

What good is the card without the PIN?

But that would damage their “dignity.”

If they cared about dignity, they'd...oh never mind; don't want to be banned or suspended.

I have seen some tough times in my life, I was always grateful when anyone would help me with food. I sure never complained. I have seen people complain about commodities or donated food. I always wonder about the complainers- how bad do they need the help?

We do have a big hurdle in this country, we have many people who think we OWE them something. Illegals think we owe them citizenship, people on food stamps think we owe them junk food and steaks...there is so many that do not see it as help when they are down but see it as something they deserve, and think they deserve only the best.

That has been the thinking. Now many have too much dignity, they think we owe them sodas and steaks. Many do not see it as help, something they should be grateful for- they somehow believe they deserve it. The more they get, the more they want, and the less they appreciate any of it.

It was never about winning the “War on Poverty.” It was all about keeping blacks on the plantation so they would vote for them.

And it has worked very well.

My thoughts as well. The Dems were the party of the KKK so when people realized that was wrong, the Dems needed a new way.
Keep them fat, happy and give them only what they need.

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

Hilarious! Almost reads like an article from The Onion. But it’s not. Right?

Right?

I hope it’s not.

Because if it is not, it proves our President has the greatest sense of humor of any President ever. By far. And is a great, great president to boot.

MAGA!

You are so right. And those of us who have gone through the hard times appreciate what we have now through our own work, even if it was just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or hotdogs and beans, but we were so happy to have it. Thank goodness times are better for us now. When we were on welfare in my childhood, my mom was so ashamed and she told us “This will NEVER happen to you”! And it didn’t. There is no longer any shame in living off the government.

I agree that making it harder to scam the system is possible...but we have an entire political party with a vested interest in increasing the scam.

Even before we get to the stage of tying a card to a person, we should investigate falsified eligibility used to attain those cards. In Kansas, the sec of state did a very minor computer check, just to see how many names popped up as duplicate between Kansas and Missouri (we have a shared metro area, and it is very easy to sign up in both states at once). For his efforts, the sec of state was vilified, called racists, etc, etc, etc.
