I sort of thought the treasonous agreement whereby the US saved UK gold reserves was what partly lead to the GD. The UK actually weathered the Great Depression quite well, being really only a minor recession, thanks again to American leadership screwing its own over.
100% agree. The Great Recession was turned into the GD by the New Deal and other bad policy decisions. Trying to keep prices high for farmers didn’t help either.
Hoover was a freaking disaster. We had two great economic miracle workers in Harding and Coolidge, but the big government arm of the GOP reared its ugly head.
I don’t know. Sounds like big banking, Federal Reserve propaganda to believe money supply contraction was the problem. I know Friedman argues the same, which is why I don’t think Friedman was the genius everyone said he was.
The government, if it was going to do anything, should have bailed out depositors rather than reward the banking establishment.
