Tons of illegals in those rural areas. Gotta service them ya know. Maybe theyll eventually run the train on down to Mexico.
Saw a news article the other day that said Kern County (where I live) has 70,000 illegals. Kern Countys population is about 840,000.
In 30 years itll be a swaying, rickety ride that will top out at 30mph on flat, straight stretches with half of the passengers camped on top of the cars ...If the earthquake doesnt wreck it first!
Time to update the math:
Their ridership estimates range from 33M to 71M per year (http://www.hsr.ca.gov/docs/about/ridership/ridership_revenue_source_doc5.pdf), which would be 2.75M to 5.9M per month. The midpoint is 4.3M per month.
Always use the highest price available for a project. That’s the $98.1B, not the $77.3B. A $98.1B loan (municipal bonds) at 1.8% for 30 years (see here for example rates http://california.municipalbonds.com/bonds/recent/) has a payment of $353 million per month.
Divide that $353M by 4.3M riders and that’s a cost of $82 per person per trip, just for the infrastructure. That’s not counting salaries, the electricity, advertising, etc. So a one-way fare must cover that. Will there be a one-way fare from SF to LA of less than $10? I doubt it. So let’s say our one-way bullet train ticket is at least $92.
I see via the Southwest.com website that I can buy a ticket today for a Monday trip from SFO to LAX for $102, which includes taxes and fees.
Not much less under the best of circumstances, and will certainly be worse. But we’ve all known that from Day One.
the Maginot Line
That’s a great name for this train.
California could build a new bullet train every three years on the money they spend on illegal migrants.
Granny always said to stop milking the Cow when it bleeds, a good lesson for the Californian tax collectors
Democrats AGAIN screwing taxpayers.
My god. California gives 1.67 to the federal government. South Carolina give 37 cents. South Carolina also is full of welfare recipients and you know it. California is the 6th largest economy in the world. South Carolina is 1,345th largest economy in the world. Dont get me started on your ststes crappy education. Bless your stupid heart.
