*APPLAUSE*
I used to ride my dirt bike out of El Paso into NM and ride along the border. It was a four-wire barbed-wire fence with a boundary marker every mile. Never saw a soul. There was a gate that was padlocked but little sign that it was used. But this was a long time ago.
Thank you Mr. President. It’s a start.
Build that fence!
Amen to that, it’s a start in a area that direly needs it.
Even with the fence built for 20 miles, is is simply a longer hike out to where the barrier to crossing may be a little less formidable. A hike through arid lands that may have rattlesnakes and no refreshment stops, to be sure, but only a momentary pause for somebody who has already traveled hundreds or even thousands of miles, much of it on foot.
And there is always the option of burrowing beneath. Got to be careful about that emergence point, however.

I would imagine the AZ / Ca border gets most of the traffic?
Would love to see California / Mexico border get walled.
A fence?
Support Free Republic, Folks!
The result was 354 miles of border protected by a pedestrian fence and 300 miles protected by vehicle barriers.
Now the Trump administration is going back to replace some of the vehicle barriers with the most up-to-date fencing.
The project will not use any of the designs Mr. Trump ordered last year."
Doncha hate it when when your political opponent makes you do what you said you wanted to do 10 years ago, but some how you want something completely different now?
Maybe do tall drone nests every so often, to hold and protect special border drones while charging and during bad weather. With comms for remotely monitoring it and ir cams for watching the fence.
F@(%ing politicians. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM !
I love how the structure pictured in the article isn’t even what’s being erected.
I am so tired of this wall horsecrap.
If you look at this border on Google Earth, the further west you go the less there is. As the border leaves the rio Grande, in mexico there is vast nothingness.
To cross the border into the USA, there is no good place to start and no good place to go once the border is crossed.
Auto-correct fail in the first sentence - appears the word should have been “remote.”
Article...18 to 30 foot Bollard-style construction.

RE: The fence will begin just west of the Santa Teresa port of entry and run 20 miles west.
