Free trade is good for consumers and workers in export industries, and I hope the U.S. joins TPP.

Forget free trade. Let’s talk fair trade.

If, and only if, FAIR TRADE. And no freebies to others just because they are ignorant, backward, cesspools. They want to compete with the US, then do so FAIRLY and ON OUR TERMS. OUR TERMS.

Mr. Trump has deputized Robert Lighthizer, the U.S. trade representative, and Larry Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, to study the possibility of re-entering the TPP if the terms were favorable, the president told a group of lawmakers on Thursday. The terms aren't going to change. And the other members of TPP have moved on and enacted the agreement with each other. So I'm not sure what the President expects to happen.

They said...ok, the US doesn't want to play, we'll do it without him. But I think they're getting no where.

They said...ok, the US doesn't want to play, we'll do it without him. But I think they're getting no where. Actually they're moving ahead with it. The remaining 11 countries agreed on a new framework, which basically was the same as the original but which suspends 20 or so provisions that the U.S. had wanted, this past January. There are about seven additional countries which have expressed an interest in joining. Tariffs within the TPP countries are being adjusted. Life is going on.
As far as the U.S. rejoining TPP, I think that ship has sailed.

Trump simply puts the pressure on until he has them positioned to give him what he wants that favors the US. He did that with N.Korea...now doing it with Syria and Russia... This is why important people don't knee jerk react when something comes to the table....remember Trump "loves" leverage and if he doesn't have it he will indeed create it.

The Presidents vision...... is that of a global trading system ‘free of the imbalances and unfair practices’ that now hold growth back, not just in the US but around the world,

As long as the conditions neuter the ability of the WTO or any other globalist body to impose rules on us, I’m cool.

No doubt that China’s changes this week on trade could be the tit for tat that Trump would reconsider.....don’t forget ‘leverage’ is in play by all parties to get to a favorable fair trade end...not a trade war.
