She should not be referred to as a female pilot. That would be insulting.
I have to disagree, and here's why. I am a friend of the one of the first women 747 captains; there are so few of them for a couple of reasons but the worst reason is that very few young women are encouraged to make flying a career.
Pointing out (publicly) that this very competent pilot was a woman "opens the door" for young women to contemplate flying for a living. That transcends insulting behavior, IMO.
