“Most of the snow melt water in the Truckee/Tahoe area runs into the Truckee River into Reno and beyond.”

The truckee river flows from lake tahoe, to pyramid lake 30 miles north east of Reno and there it ends.

I think a good part of the water that flows down the east side of the Sierra Nevada ends up in Los Angeles.

Correct. The largest percentage of water in Los Angeles comes from the Eastern Sierra, the other 40% from the Colorado River.

Had some friends who went north to camp along Lake Superior in the summer and they said the black flies were absolutely horrible.......I guess if you’re going to do it, the best time is in the fall.

Billings is not representative of ‘snow country’ Montana.

I live in Bozeman and we have had LOTS of snow this year.

Our growing season is 45 days shorter than Billings - where they can play golf almost year around. Here our golf courses have cross country skiing tracks laid down upon the fairways.

Overall it’s an indication of how much snow we have had this season.

From the story Billings got 0.1” of snow while we had 6” at our house...

Nevertheless the Nokian Hakkapeliitta’s come off at 9:00 and 11:00 - take that, winter!

I was in Missoula and Whitefish in February, lots of snow out that way. I’ll actually be in Bozeman next summer for work but I assume I won’t be seeing much snow in July!

We have some snow in early June on occasion - It’s bad for the trees.

Snow is just a few miles away in July - Sept if you take a trip to Big Sky (45 miles).

If you plan a trip to Yellowstone NP understand that when in the park it’s s l o w driving through it. Some folks put themselves on a time schedule but it’s slower than Atlanta.

It’s beautiful here in July. We have no humidity or bugs to speak of.

Everything west of the Rockies in Montana is grey all winter, on this side we have sun and clear skies - WAY different in the winter.

How long will you be here?

Before you come out PM me and I can let you know what’s going on locally for fun on the weekends/evenings.

Best!

Sweet! I’ll have to be there three or four days for work but will probably bring the family and make it into at least a week.

With a family you might like the Museum of the Rockies (think T-Rex):

And don’t forget to make your hotel reservations well in advance - I’m NOT kidding!

It’s getting cold because of Global Warming. Too funny.
