Suddenly Maine Democrats are Libertarians, insisting that govt not interfere with religious beliefs and practices. The #metoo party says that if your Muslim, it’s OK to mutilate little girls. The politics of expediency has a logic of its own.
The claim that Maine Democrats voted to allow female genital mutilation is false, as both Democrats and Republicans in Maine advanced legislation specifying criminal penalties for the practice. The two sides voted along party lines on the different bills, with the version favored by Democrats being passed. Despite reports to the contrary, no part of the passed bill allows or legalizes female genital mutilation.
There is already federal legislation against it and this bill in Maine had nothing to do with allowing it as neither party wanted to allow it. They just voted down the other party’s bill for bipartisan reasons and both knew a bill would pass without allowing FGM to pass.
This is one of those times the media is playing games to sell newspapers.

So what? There are federal laws against murder, and state laws as well. Are you saying the state laws aren't necessary?
the shame is on them....
It is ours and PJ Media’s job to make people notice and make people explain themselves. BTW, this is why the left hate us and free speech and the Internet so much — because they have to explain themselves.
The bottom half, anyhow.
Democrats hate women!
Good. Maybe all the muzzies in America will pack up and head to Maine and they wont be cockroaches spread out all about the country.
Vote for Democrats. They support female genital mutilation.
Vote for Democrats. They support female genital mutilation.
Should be the mantra this election cycle.
#metoo ... Oh wait ... never mind.
Maine Democrats Support Female Genital Mutilation!
Shouldn’t that be the headline?
Why does a small state like Maine need nearly 150 members in its legislature?
An un-funny DANG!
Leftoids are worthless.
One sane Dem in the Maine Senate..amazing...
No, the article is leaning to saying the state laws aren’t important as they brought it up and presented it that way, not me. But I further indicated in the comment that they had already passed a bill to criminalize FGM and that the reason the article was printed was not to indicate that but to display party partisan warfare over a topic they both believe in and both presented bills for intending the same outcome.
This is not an example of the success of the desired effect but the stupidity of getting to the same location not even going different routes and arguing about the direction.

As Townhall's Elizabeth Yore reports, "69 GOP (and 1 Dem) [voted] for the bill and 77 Dems and Independents [voted[ against an FGM bill that would criminalize female genital mutilation." ... "The Democratic House legislators who voted against this FGM bill curiously argued that 'FGM doesnt happen in Maine,' despite the fact that Maine is one of only eight federal pilot programs to address the exponential growth of FGM in America. If little girls in Maine are not at risk for FGM, then why is Maine receiving more than $200,000 a year from the federal government to help prevent FGM?"
Thanks martin_fierro.
Maine is small in population but huge in area.
New Hampshire has something like 400 members in their legislature. Now that’s a lot!
In Maine the GOP controls the Maine Senate and the Executive branch, i.e., governor. The dems control the Maine House.
