The Constitution also states that the states are to have a republican form of government (e.g. no state could have a konarchy for state issues). Having an outside measure that is possibly unverifiable before the EC meets could well fail to meet that standard.

I can’t see how it is - they’re basically saying they have the right to change the system and disenfranchise voters. We have a system that rules all, they can’t just decide for themselves that they’ll do something else.

The Constitution was set up the way it was to prevent populous states from having undue influence on the outcome, and to give smaller states a say in the outcome.

They would argue that your vote does count, because it adds to the national vote totals. This is a very bad idea, and as already stated essentially means that those living in cities will decide how the rest of us live. According to the US Census, 62.7% of the US population live in cities, although cities represent only 3.5% of the US land area.

So far only “Blue” states have done this popular vote winner nonsense... and I guarandamntee you, if the GOP candidate wins the popular vote (especially if the DemWit won the EVs)... everyone of these DemWit states will immediately call a special session and repeal their popular vote winner laws before the December vote of the Electoral College!

This has only to do with the manner in which the electors are selected; it does not give the states the authority to tell the electors how to vote, or to allow the votes of the state electors to be overruled by the national popular vote.

It is a violation of the basic principles of representative, republican government and of American federalism.

This law is intended to render the electoral college meaningless by violating the will of the people in the respective states, and by effectively turning the presidential election into a national popular vote, in violation of the Constitution.

That is an interesting argument. But Connecticut can get around it. As it is now, electors can vote any way they want when they meet as an Electoral College. But 99% of them vote as expected.

So Connecticut Democrats would just have to pick as electoral college candidates those folks who favor the Compact.

You’re not telling the electors how to vote. But you’re getting the same result.
