I wasn't around here when Akin stepped in it. But hopefully you have something more authoritative than the Toddster alone.

There were better sources posted when this whole issue was at a head, but I did manage to find some information on the topic which I posted in my previous message.

Toddster didn't come up with this. A medical Doctor had told him this with the intention of convincing him that the rape exception for Abortion was mostly just a scam, because anyone who wanted one would claim they were raped.

You're welcome.

LOL! I've read enough of your Civil War posts to know that you will literally believe anything.

Then you haven't read enough of them. I started out believing what I had been told all my life. It took me awhile, but I finally started realizing that the things people had told me, don't make any sense, but after I found out more information, the reasons why they told me these things began to make sense.

Here is a good writer from Connecticut.

The primary in WV is partisan. I can’t vote for anyone tomorrow because I am a declared Independent.

What you have there is a list of elections where the Bush League Republicans teamed up with the Democrats to give the seat to the Democrats.

How - through hypnosis? They hypnotized them into saying and doing extraordinarily stupid things to sabotage themselves?

I think you need to talk to the RINO universe and have them not go to war against candidates they don’t want to see in Washington.

That's not really accurate as significant amounts of resources - both time and money - were spent supporting some of those candidates (such as Angle and Mourdock) who then shot themselves in the foot and sabotaged themselves in races where they were on track to win. O'Donnell didn't need their support as she raised well into the 8 figures but destroyed herself straight out of the gate with that embarrassing "I'm not a witch!" ad - her chances were slim in a state like DE, but she essentially ended that general election right from the start. The establishment is what it is, but they don't hypnotize these people to sabotage their own campaigns with stupid campaign decisions and irrevocable verbal gaffes. The establishment, however, certainly doesn't nominate perfect candidates either who also shoot themselves in the foot or they nominate boring milquetoast token candidates that inspire nothing in races that might otherwise be winnable (witness what is happening in Michigan this election cycle - for some reason it appears the establishment is not backing John James and are "giving up" on that race before it even starts...and John James is definitely a viable candidate if he were to be well funded - and he'd be a young fresh face for the future viability of the party - it is flat out stupid they would not make that race a priority as it would pay dividends beyond just picking up a seat). Stupidity in candidate choices and campaign tactics doesn't have a monopoly in any circle.

Blankenship is a criminal and is reponsible for 29 miners losing their lives.

I don't know the guy and I don't know W Va politics, but the article states:

Don Blankenship, a coal baron who spent time in jail for a mining disaster that killed 29 workers...

That doesn't tell me whether he is criminal in the normal sense of the word, or if he got nailed for safety code violations in a business that is inherently dangerous. Two very different things and more details would be needed to discern his character.

If any FReepers have more detail, that would be useful and appreciated in understanding why Blankenship seems to be the popular choice

These are the same democrats ravaged by the Obama war on coal that voted for Donald Trump.

These former democrats will decide the Senate race.

I only know he was the mine owner and as such
he was responsible for the mine.
And he was held accountable by a jury.

I can understand that. My question (just for forming my own opinion) is does that make him any better or worse than Roy Moore?

Moore seemed like a decent man who got ambushed, and really did not know or have the skills to navigate the accusations, or didn’t want to put in the effort in the end.

Blankenship ran a business, and may or may not have known or been involved in decisions that cut corners to increase profits, but was liable nonetheless, and some folks died in an accident as a result. Does that mean he had criminal intent? Is he flawed any worse than anyone else? Or did he just allow himself to be in the wrong position at the wrong time?

That’s all I know about him so I cant judge, but apparently he is ‘liked’ by a significant number of W Va voters. Must be a reason.

I can only speak for myself.
Moore was beaten by allegations alone.
He was not tried and convicted of anything.
And yes, he did a poor job of defending
himself.

Blankenship is a convicted criminal.
And as the mine owner, ultimately responsible
for the deaths of 29 miners.

Just as Jimmy Carter was responsible for the
failed Iranian rescue mission, even though he did not
fly a helicopter or plan the mission.
