Same, my local Dick’s is mostly overpriced clothes, the hunting and firearms section is small with a not so great selection. With several local gunshops including “my” place, I’ve never had to patronize Dick’s for a firearm. One time I did go there and had to show my ID to buy...cleaning patches. Firearms accessory, you know. Dangerous.
Very misleading story and I believe purposely so.
In this very, very strong economy there are few businesses not seeing strong increases in business year over year. However there is no way of knowing what their earnings would have been had they not stop selling weapons and related supplies.
Yes. My theory, if true, means liberals making purchases could have mitigated an even greater decline.
Nice to see you like Dicks.
You can only go so far selling stuff for girls’ softball and boys’ skateboarding.
Dick’s is headed nowhere.
Next quarter you will see it ... I havent been into Dicks since ... spent $400+ at Bass Pro and $600+ at REI since then ... much much better selection in both places (though REI is more about Hiking/Camping and nothing about hunting/fishing).
Uhhhh I worked at Wallys corporate HQ for 5 years. For those who dont know the retail industry, same store sales IS the measure of a companys health. Plowing more money into opening more stores will boost your sales number, but your costs go up too. You in effect became less efficient and less profitable as a business when that happens. If it keeps happening, you die.
At Wally, it would have been like the end of the world if same store sales only grew by 1 or 2%. I cant even imagine what -2.5% would be like. That is a horrible performance.
Living in western PA where Dicks and Field and Stream are local companies, I can assure you a vast, vast majority of gun owners do not make their gun purchases at these stores.
the prices are absurd compared to local dealers and the selection is not at good.
I acquired one gun from F&S because I won a shot gun on a raffle ticket and I traded it in for a pistol. I would have never gotten one there otherwise.
For example, I just looked it up and Wal-Marts same store sales growth in the first quarter was just over 2%. Everybody was disappointed with that performance and the stock dropped in price a bit.
-2.5% is atrocious.
Dick’s is a jock strap store, not sporting goods.
Hunting and fishing are sports and those that participate are sportsmen.
The others are gamesters.
Dick’s is a big operation. Their overall profits probably absorbed their gun sale losses.
“reports the company’s first-quarter earnings exceeded expectations”
They didn’t change their gun policy until end of February.
2/3 into the quarter.
I believe all retail sales have been up first quarter. A better measure would be how Dick’s performs this quarter, or just in March, as compared to others in their retail segment.
Dicks and Starbucks swirling down the drain would be a very good thing. Too bad they aren’t.
The arrival says same store sales were down.
The chocolate ration has been increased from 30 grams to 20 grams...
I say they are lying about the report.
Just wait a while.
Picked up more Democrats buisness.
Same with Netflix which is the company I would most like to see crash and burn.
I suspect most gun owners don’t buy their guns at Dicks and gun sales were never a big part of sales.
That was exactly my point.
You buy a new gun from a gun dealer, not a sneaker store.
