Trust me, they are going to try the same trick.
These people don’t live in the same places real people do. They don’t have to deal with the crap that illegal immigration brings. I think they truly believe the BS spouted by other politicians and the media. Illegals are good people, just looking for a better life, etc. And they think eventually they’ll vote Republican. They seem to have missed what has happened to California.
But I don’t understand the constant time spent on this problem. It’s like it’s almost all they think about....and that should really po American citizens who have voted them in to represent them.
Some of these open border advocates have toned it down lately in order to look like team players, but the cheap labor lobby has been lining the GOP's pockets for too long for most of them to be reliable on the issue.

So how is your “chipping away” going? These feckless pr!cks know that their bill isn’t going to be signed into law, but they are more anti-Trump than they are pro-American People. The problem with your idea is that there do not seem to be many “conservatives” with the political juice to get themselves elected over the incumbent RINOs.

To these politicians and their donors, an illegal immigrant is the docile dimwit who mows their lawn or who changes their bedsheets for pennies, rather than the people who turn cities into gangland with graffiti on every wall, trash on every street, and a bail bonds office on every corner.

That's one part of it, and if they actually believe this they're incredibly stupid. Blacks are disproportionately conservative on many individual social issues (e.g. homosexual "marriage"), but this doesn't stop 95% of them from voting for Democrats because racial identity and the welfare state are the most important issues.
Republicans don't seem to realize that they'll never beat the Democrats at the race-pandering game, the Democrats have been at it longer and are better at it. Why should a Mexican vote for an open borders Republican when he's already getting advocacy of open borders from his Democrat Congressman?
Most Republicans know that the Rove Strategy is just BS and politically correct window dressing. At their core, their advocacy of open borders and amnesty is about keeping the flood of cheap labor coming in for their donors. And if that means bringing in criminals and other troublemakers in the process and radically changing the culture and demography of the US, so be it.
Trump won the presidency by declaring he would go after illegal aliens and build a wall. He let DACA expire.
