Cops won’t be very interested unless there’s a definite suspect. They are about cuffing and stuffing, not solving crimes per se.

I seem to recall that, before being conquered by the Spaniards, some of the ball games played by the natives in Central and South America involved human skulls. So maybe it’s just a cultural thing. We must not judge, right?
