By the way, I live in New Jersey, we often will say something is “right up the Turnpike” meaning it’s close and accessible but we don’t necessarily take the turnpike to get there. When I say it’s a ride down the turnpike, it non-intuitively doesn’t necessarily mean they took the turnpike, just that it’s hardly off the grid.

their first instincts will NOT be an objective report or assessment-but an attempt to “control the narrative”-

they’re liberals..they can’t help themselves

Out in the middle is where most of the REAL people live. The coasts are dominated by phonies.

Yeah, right? And what I find very offensive here is the barley disguised subtext that this is made out to be some kind of anthropological expedition into the ‘’heart of darkness’’ as it were to see what the rubes in the hinterland are lie,

Exactly. Chicopee is known for the Air Force base and the strip club, Anthony’s(one of the better ones in the country, according to a friend of mine). It’s peeing distance from Springfield and den of radical liberalism in Amherst, Northhampton and the Berkshire/Happy Valley.

Take them to a 4H fair in a county seat away from the major cities.

See what the kids in those locales are up to.

Get an idea just how BIG a cow is that creates their steaks; and produces their milk for their Count Chocula cereal.

Try to understand the emotion a youngster must go thru; knowing that the farm animal they’ve raised since it was small, and will now be sold and processed for food.

...even Hawaii has interstates-—

But one has to hold their breath for SO long driving from Hawaii to another state.

I wonder if the prof accounts for possible behavioral changes “local” folks may make when they see students outside of their Ivy League cocoons. Are the students seeing “the real deal”?

Salena Zito hails from Pittsburg and she knows the heartland. That’s why she took them to the Midwest.

The states on either side of the mississippi river. Iowa in particular.

If they had gone to Mississippi or Alabama type states they would confirm the ignorance and backwardness of the common folk, and they would meet a new breed of minority that you don’t find around the metropolitan states. I learned about the slave shuffle in New Orleans. I was horrified.
