By the way, I live in New Jersey, we often will say something is “right up the Turnpike” meaning it’s close and accessible but we don’t necessarily take the turnpike to get there. When I say it’s a ride down the turnpike, it non-intuitively doesn’t necessarily mean they took the turnpike, just that it’s hardly off the grid.

If they had gone to Mississippi or Alabama type states they would confirm the ignorance and backwardness of the common folk, and they would meet a new breed of minority that you don’t find around the metropolitan states. I learned about the slave shuffle in New Orleans. I was horrified.
