I think the best choice at this time would be Amul Thapar. First, he is from Kentucky. Thus, Th Turtle will make sure it is a speedy confirmation. Second, he is Indian-American. I ewould love to se ethe Dems oppose the first Indian American nominated for the Supreme Court- especially right before an election where some of these Senators are from states that have a large Indian population. Third, Since he is from MCConnelss home state, McConnell will be the one to present him to the Senate once nominated. If Schumer tries to block it, McConnell woul dconsider it a personal insult. Then finally he may get pissed off and decide that all deals are off with the Dems and use the nuclear option on all matters and even tell Schume rhis pet projects are getting no funding.

Thapar told an audience at the University of Virginia that there should be a clear separation of powers between judges, who enforce the law, and lawmakers, who write the law. He said that he completely agrees with Justice Antonin Scalia, who called for a strict “textual” approach when interpreting laws. He said judges should “stay in their lanes” and enforce the laws exactly as they are written, instead of becoming activists who try to change existing laws.

And yet the Dems continually lose on the 2d ammendment but continue to fight to abolish it.

I think the idea is to turn issues like this to the states...ie the people.

You will then have states allowing abortion, like marijuana.

I think a majority of Americans would agree that abortion is not a “right”.

There are a lot of people who identify as pro-life who believe that abortion should be limited. There are only 18% who believe it should always be illegal.

I'm in that 18% and I'll tell you exactly why: With today's modern medicine and pre-natal care there is almost never a medical reason to have an abortion.

The truth is that abortion is treated like another form of birth control in this country. It removes the moral consequences of sexual immorality and is counter to the sanctity of human life.

Those who really want to know when this country's moral decline started in earnest really only need look back to Roe v. Wade IMO.

That’s ridiculous. I’ve read that 53% of Americans support restrictions on abortion. But even if Roe v. Wade does come back to haunt the GOP, I’d rather strike a blow for the unborn and for social conservatism than surrender to the left.

Besides, Dan Fisher, the Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate for the GOP, said that if elected he would immediately call a special legislative session to abolish abortion in the state. And he’s not going to let the federal judiciary stop him. A state-level ban like this is the best window for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. Especially now that Kennedy is retiring.

I’ll take my chances on the future of an America without Abortion, rather than the wrath of God on an America promoting Abortion.

I agree. Any gender, race, or similar question is bad path and no better than Democratic identification politics, rather bias. I do think it will conflict them, but should be an ‘oh, by the way’, if mentioned at all. As I wrote, I am more concerned with her views on second amendment, on constitutional authority of president, maybe ask what she thinks of judicial legislating and usurpation of authority by judges setting national rulings that extend beyond their district.

Of all President Trump's wonderful, smart, well cultured, well educated and well spoken children I happen to think Ivanka's the smartest. I really do. That said, I really don't think she has any business picking the next United States Supreme Court Justice.

medical technology maybe the solution

Yes. Many leftists argue that abortion should be legal, at least up to the point of "viability", but medical technology has been steadily pushing back this point of "viability", so "viability" is really just of measure of the local medical technology.

I say local because the point of "viability" is far different in a modern neonatal U.S. hospital than it is in a grass hut in Zambia.

Roe did not make abortion “legal”. Many states allowed abortion prior to Roe. The decision made abortion a Constitutional Right which could not be regulated by the states, at least during the first trimester. The text of Roe did allow the states to regulate abortion later in the pregnancy but any attempt to do so was blocked by later decisions which held that such regulation unduly infringed the so-called abortion right. Overturning Roe would simply allow the states to regulate the procedure. Many would allow abortion and some would presumably outlaw.

For over 35 years liberals have feared that any new supreme court nominee, if conservative, would overturn R v W but it never happened. And it never will........

At least they have something to harp about.....

IMO SCOTUS, even a pro-life dominated SCOTUS, will at most tweak around the edges to allow a little more regulation and constraint.

Overturning RvW is not in the cards.
