We’ve been seeing this for some time. Progressives believe that any speech that does not conform to their view is dangerous and should be stopped.

And the little lib says: "Free speech for Me, but not for Thee!".

That about sums it up...

The American Left has not changed one bit, nor is it hypocritical. The Left has consistently advocated its concept of the “Freedom of Speech”. For example, Article 50 of the Constitution of the USSR stated:

“Article 50. In accordance with the interests of the people and in order to strengthen and develop the socialist system, citizens of the USSR are guaranteed freedom of speech, of the press, and of assembly, meetings, street processions and demonstrations.”

The Left is not hypocritical; it is deceptive.

Conservatives and libertarians must come to terms with the fact that the Left is all about deception, and that it uses words and expressions that have entirely different meanings from those used in ordinary communications.

It’s just that the Left’s definition of “Free Speech” is different from any definition of a genuine American or classical liberal.

The Leftist concept of “Free Speech” originates in Article 11 of the French Revolution’s “Declaration of the Rights of Man” states “The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man. Every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, but shall be responsible for such abuses of this freedom as shall be defined by law.” This is all it takes to confer to the State the authority to guillotine anyone who advocates or even communicates wrongthink.

Certainly there were some classical liberals who signed on to the Declaration of the Rights of Man. They failed to grasp the intentions of the “but brigade” (people who say they’re all for free speech, but ... The “but” negates their fake advocacy of the classical liberal understanding of the meaning of “Free Speech”.)

As I tell everybody, today all the authoritarians are on the Left.

They’re the ones who want to ban things, take away choices, shut people up, etc.

Floyd Abrams’s a heavy weight AND he’s coming down on our side... interesting times...

“The left was once not just on board but leading in supporting the broadest First Amendment protections,” said Floyd Abrams, a prominent First Amendment lawyer and a supporter of broad free-speech rights. “Now the progressive community is at least skeptical and sometimes distraught at the level of First Amendment protection which is being afforded in cases brought by litigants on the right.”

“Many on the left have traded an absolutist commitment to free speech for one sensitive to the harms it can inflict.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/30/us/politics/first-amendment-conservatives-supreme-court.html

“Described by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan as “the most significant First Amendment lawyer of our age,” Floyd is top-ranked by Chambers USA. He is listed in Who’s Who Legal, Who’s Who in American Law...”

Just an FYI, Laura Ingraham thinks that Kagan was a great choice for the SCOTUS.

I almost fell out of my Recliner when I heard her say it on her Show a few days ago.

At least she didn’t say the same of the Wise Latina.

They want their “fairness doctrine” back so that they can completely control the message. Facts are their Kryptonite.

Liberals lie as a matter of course. They cannot tell the truth and get elected.
