“The DEA has horribly abused the Controlled Substance Act to go after doctors in the same way as drug dealers.”

I read (NYT?, yesterday?) that hospitals are having a pain killer shortage.

One hospital(?) was offered drugs with glass particles and told to filter before injecting. Those drugs were not put into supply cabinets.

Wow, thanks for posting that. I say we cut HHS by a few (or several) percent and use the savings in ... one year to pay for the wall.

So your entire point is that Singapore does not now exist, cannot exist and never has existed.

Frankly, I don’t care about anyone dying from illegal drugs. That was their choice. That said, anyone, here legally or not, who gives children drugs should be punished to the full extent of the law.

We need to wall to keep our country safe, period.

Read Underground Empire by Mills. He maintained that taking down drug trafficking organizations in their entirety by multi-leveled RICO prosecutions and asset confiscation was the way to stop the drug trade.

Even “lawful” prescriptions for painkillers are abused or prescribed for emotional versus physical pain. Kickbacks from Pharma drive behavior, I am not discounting people who have chronic pain and know them as well as others who abuse aided by doctors for profit

To me the point of the article is that the demand for the drugs, both opioid as well as meth and most notably Fentanyl are supplied in a large part by groups originating from outside the United States. China has been found as well to be a supplier of Fentanyl as a product worth taking the risk for. Closing the borders and monitoring more closely ports of entry like shipping and air freight will drive down the availability. as others have noted many of the illegals are mules, an acceptable casualty in a larger conspiracy to flood the market while it is still open

So please let's not sway off topic, there are many tangents to this and no one seeks to deny principled prescriptions for needy patients. But hiding behind that are the bad folks seeking to enslave our citizens to their own profit and to me there is a pretty fair possibility that some in our Government agencies are involved in keeping it alive.

Opinions vary, this is mine

“Singapore” is probably about the size of DC.

Appeals in the USA probably now take ~two decades.

“Singapore”

Open up the coffin of a Mexican politician full of plumbo and ask him what the cartels do to politicians that crack down hard on drugs.

~130 dead so far this year

~50% of Mexican law enforcement jobs are open

Make it (and everything) legal and let the problem sort itself out. I don’t want to spend one cent keeping druggies off drugs or out of jail, let ‘em overdose and be done with it.

Not true. There is a large market for opioids. Folks buy em and abuse them by doctor shopping. Then the state puts them on the methadone train. Sometimes it’s suboxone but it is all perpetual prescribed highness
