How about “No voting without providing a thumbprint”?

when you just simply hold up your phone and show them that you can't get into your phone without a thumbprint

BS! All technology is vulnerable/hackable; there is always a "back door". Besides, the utter impractical idiocy of it.

a gun owner should not be able to fire a gun without some sort of verification like a thumbprint that's needed to unlock a smartphone.

First, pass a law that your local police force must use these weapons for at least a year. Call it a field test.

Then I might consider your proposal.

Hey Ted, when the gun manufacturers can guarantee me their ‘smart’ gun is as reliable and trouble free as my EDC, I’ll begin to research it. Until then, you’re pissing up a rope.

Instead of chasing this dead dream why not pursue something a lot more useful like positive voter ID for voting?

If there is a computer activating your firearm in any manner the government can turn your firearm off so you cannot use it.

Oh you could throw it at the storm troopers when they kick in your door

I say it's a great idea.

Throw in a drug screening while we're at it. That will fail this assclown right there, and make quick work of it.

You shouldn’t be able to hold a House seat without a mental eval and a drug test, Mr. Deutchbag.

Such devices would have to remain charged to work, and would have to be as hardy and weather-proof as the weapon itself.

Finally, when the electronics malfunction (and they will), the manufacturer can be held liable for the results. The current law shielding weapons manufacturers states that the company cannot be sued when their product is used in a criminal manner, IIRC. Failure to function is still valid under tort.

Parkland Congressman: 'You Shouldn't Be Able to Fire a Gun' Without Fingerprint Recognition

Another monumentally ignorant moron speaks up!
A certified STEM education reject.

Criminals never have and never will accept new laws and technology. The honest citizens, relying on the "...shall not be infringed" protection of the Bill of rights are the only potential victims.

Will never happen.
The Kakistocracy lives on, however...

Deutch also said that there are efforts underway to require gun manufacturers to incorporate smart technology in firearms but that the NRA is standing in the way.

Deutch, you stupid beach!

At least 200,000,000 genuine Americans of all parties are standing in the way.
All armed, locked and ready.

Good luck, imbecile.

Communist wannabe politicians from Florida shouldn’t be able to shoot off their big, commie mouths without their dental records being on file with local law enforcement.

Together with an up to date certificate of their rabies shots...

I propose a similar ‘test’ be done putting such devices on a whole gaggle of libtards cars to prove how reliable the idea is (and at their expense).

Lets see how well they work. (Or rather NOT work in a practical sense). No cheating there tard, this is a real test of your theoretical solution.

BTW Is this politico one who is against Voting ID being required ?

“let’s do a pilot project and federal LEOs, security guards, and bodyguards use the “Smart” guns for five years first”

I see your point, but it would just result in more dead good guys.

Can’t we come up with something that results in more dead bad guys?

Congressmen should be required to take a comprehensive mental stability test before every vote.

How much you wanna bet in a actually competant test system this congressman would not past and fail rates for democrats would be 5X that of republicans

Yes, but the Democrat isn’t suggesting National Open (aka Constitutional) Carry.

I was commenting on what he wanted, not proposing something different.

Actually, liberal idiots and the political allies should hope that the firearms industry does not decide to merge computing power with firearms. I'm in no hurry to have a firearm that needs a fingerprint to unlock, but I would not mind having one with a combined thermal and optical camera that uses force generating gyros to push my hands so that the barrel is aligned with the optimal location of the person or other warm target nearest to the center of my aim point.

And then the same processor, camera, and gyros reset the location after the recoil induced muzzle lift so that my aim point is once again on the target at an optimal location.

With such a system there would be much less chance of a shot missing the intended target, and you could even hit targets by just pre-activating the trigger and sweeping the gun past the target, allowing the processor in the gun to fire when aligned with the target.

Such a system would let untrained civilians facing dangerous criminals, or dangerous animals, to hit the target on the first shot, and then if needed repeat the shot quickly.

Of course a more advanced version would let you remotely operate the firearm using your phone as the viewing and control system, so you could send your now intelligent firearm downstairs to see what caused the breaking glass.

Sure, firearms that use computer technology to improve sighting and aiming.

And after that, firearms carried by semi-autonomous devices, either ground based robots or flying drones.

Why go downstairs to see what broke the glass if you could send down a smart robot or flying drone with a gun?

>>Why go downstairs to see what broke the glass if you could send down a smart robot or flying drone with a gun?

Because I’ve seen Terminator. And even they can be defeated by a ditz like Sarah Conner.

“And bullets should have serial numbers!”
Expect that to come up again.

Numbers that you can wipe off? Like with a rag?
