We’re doing just fine in California. I just finished fixing breakfast and ate it in the cockpit of my 40 ft sailboat that is docked in the beautiful Ventura Harbor. In a bit I’m taking my grandson to the beach so he can surf. Later today we’re having a dock party with the neighbors who are bringing lobsters they trapped. Yeah, life is pretty good here

Then the FEDERAL government refused to enforce immigration law, and California filled up with illegal aliens, who either became citizens via FEDERAL amnesties or whose kids were born citizens because of FEDERAL anchor baby law. In any event, native Californians may have gotten slightly more liberal over time due to the self-selection process, but for the most part, the political shift has come about because the FEDERAL government failed to stop illegal immigration.

California has the best weather, the best colleges, and the strongest business environment, despite the regulations, in the country. It is so diverse that anyone can find a place to have a good life. Where I live we have a strong economy, fabulous weather, a great evangelical Church, and beautiful lands. You just need to be flexible and work hard. While I love where I live, I would not live in 90% of California. I don’t like Southern California.
The whole San Francisco is a “Sh&thole” story is complete fake news. It is an amazing vibrant city and is currently a boomtown. The population has grown 10% since 2010. Yes, there are homeless issues, but a lot of has been caused by the growth, as poorer people have been pushed out of their neighborhoods by corporate development. Unlike Seattle and Portland, SF has a positive corporate environment. Just look at a list of the companies headquarter in SF.
The real estate is expense due to supply and demand (please remember Econ 101). The demand is high due to the strong economy and the tech company growth. The supply is limited due to geography. SF is surrounded by water on three sides.
California has lots of issues, but I have no intention of moving. BTW, I see lots of Texas license plates where I live.

We’re retired so could live anywhere we want. Our house is paid for so could pay cash somewhere else. We own the boat in Ventura and property on the Big Island of Hawaii which I stay at a couple of times a year. I just got back from a trip to visit relatives in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and yes, Texas. Can’t see myself living in any of them. Guess that’s why we’re still here. And yeah, life is pretty good for me.

Some parts....like west Texas, are arid (low humidity). Central TX is less humid than E/SE TX.

Our kid is working in N. Austin and lives near Round Rock. I didn't mean to imply we would only live there for half a year. Just would need to deal with the hottest half of the year.

Cali is the RICHEST state in the nation. Big Deal. Venezuala was the RICHEST nation in South America with vast reserves of OIL!!!
It is no necessarily the MONEY you have. Rather what counts is how foolishly you flush it down the sanitary facility, and that it what California has been doing in spades. Also, whose fingers on into all that money?
