I don’t think he’s a POS. He’s a genius and visionary, and that group has a high incidence of mental disturbance and volatility. He’s losing it because he doesn’t know how to recharge his mental batteries. He wants to be Superman and save the world, but it’s a big world and he’s burning out.
Oxygen tanks had to be removed from the divers/children to get through the tight spots.
A sub would have been just in the way.
