Noting the summer ’17 dates on the following articles, I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised to see contradictory information about what’s going on in California.

All new construction. It really could make a difference, especially when you consider how many panels are actually required. When the AC is most needed is when the cells will also be producing the most electricity. Tens of thousands of homes producing enough (or almost enough) of their AC needs would matter.
Of course it’s still a dumb idea. It will help California the same way a Pay Day Loan helps the lendee. It can get you out of a tight jam, but you will pay dearly for it. And it won’t fix the systemic problem.

Peak power supply includes natural gas peaking plants. There is not enough pipeline capacity to supply these plants. On peak days, like recently happened there will be rolling blackouts.

Like NY, the leftists want to shut down nuc plants. Diablo Canyon is scheduled to be shut down in a few years just because.
Their solar panels/wind turbines plans are not sufficient.
I hope they sweat in LA and Sacratomatoe, and SF. Boy, SF will smell when the temperatures scream up (which does happen occasionally) and the feces on the side walks ripppens.

I've been hearing these "grid horror stories" for the past 30 years.
If the dam grid doesn't get wiped out from an EMP, it wont matter because global warming is going overload it and it'll fail anyway.
Then the slimy politicians wring their hands until nothing happens and then they never do a thing about the problem until they start crying during the next crisis.
If any grid in the country goes down now, the people serviced by that section deserve what they get.
We've known that we are supposed to be susceptible in this area and have done absolutely nothing about it.
California’s solar energy supply is not matched to the electricity delivery grid. In other words, the kwh’s produced by solar energy can’t reach the customers.
Therefore they must sometimes pay other states to take the excess kwh’s from California.
Thus, the titles of the two articles:

What you call “grid horror stories” are actually intelligent people projecting possible future shortages of electricity.
As the politicians have mismanaged California’s electricity supply there will gradually be shortages during peak periods. This will cause rolling blackouts during peak days.
Just like in a backward, third world country.
I went to Burlington Friday to return a few things. I swear I was the only white person in the place. It could have been located in Mexico and I wouldn’t have known the difference. I’ll start saving energy and water when the politicians send all the Mexicans and South Americans back home where they belong. Til then they can talk to my hand.

making the need for pre-emptive blackouts paramount over the local disruption to be caused by intentional windstorm blackouts.
The problem is the Santa Anna winds, according to Picker.
Of Interest, is the fact that "Prior to his appointment, President Picker was Senior Advisor for Renewable Energy in the Office of the Governor from 2009 to 2014."
So,.. if it's hot and windy, the public be dam*ed - because it will overtax the grid system, negate the value of renewable resources
and renew and encourage utility dependency on fossil fuels.
That is what this issue of planned rolling blackouts is really all about.
Today it is about Malibu..
Tomorrow is will be about Southern California,.. and still later all of California.
And later still, this may be the condition of the Coastal Cities that are governed by the Libtards who ignore the use of fossil fuels.
Are you prepared for blackouts ?, .. perhaps for an extended period of time like those who have experienced a hurricane ?
Have you, or you and your family had a practice simulation of life without electricity, cellphone, internet access, refrigerated medication, cooking, food storage, etc.?
Practice means that there will be no surprises, when you and your family are faced with problems; you will already be 'well versed" on how to respond !!
