...Is legal-defense insurance a constitutional thing to ban?...

Obama, Hilary, Cuomo, Schumer and the rest of the democrats don’t need a stinkin’ Constitution.

So let's look at the NY state constitution.

Let's start with Article 1:

Section 1. No member of this state shall be disfranchised, or deprived of any of the rights or privileges secured to any citizen thereof, unless by the law of the land, or the judgment of his or her peers, except that the legislature may provide that there shall be no primary election held to nominate candidates for public office or to elect persons to party positions for any political party or parties in any unit of representation of the state from which such candidates or persons are nominated or elected whenever there is no contest or contests for such nominations or election as may be prescribed by general law. (Amended by vote of the people November 3, 1959; November 6, 2001.)
I think we have them right there, but let's continue.

ARTICLE XII (9)
Defense
Section 1. The defense and protection of the state and of the United States is an obligation of all persons within the state. The legislature shall provide for the discharge of this obligation and for the maintenance and regulation of an organized militia.
Can't well defend and protect the state when the qubermint makes an end run around the RKBA.

Mr. Cuomo said the National Rifle Association let on in court papers last month how much it relies on the liability insurance program to bolster its bottom line, and could succumb to pressure.

It's very profitable because there isn't very much risk.

They are using these means to stop Constitutionally protected rights. Free Speech, Assembly, Lobbying, IMO, for just a few..

NY GOP is extinct. Marcus Molinaro can’t beat Cuomo.

“I believe this insurance product is going to be illegal from a public policy point of view in most states,” Mr. Cuomo said on MSNBC. “Now that the NRA has said this is a major source of revenue, I’m going to pursue it nationwide.”

Where's the American equivalent of Pinochet when you need him?

Is he saying all legal insurance in New York is illegal? That’s going to upset many of his supporters.

“I believe this insurance product is going to be illegal from a public policy point of view in most states,” Mr. Cuomo said on MSNBC.

Illegal from a public policy point of view? Aren’t things supposed to be illegal only because they contradict written law? Illegal from a public policy point of view sounds as if something is in disagreement with public policy that makes it illegal!? Nonsense. Surely, to quote Al Gore, “ There is no controlling legal authority”, to declare anything illegal as a result of disagreeing with public policy.

This is the kind of thing the left is worried about if the Supreme Court leans heavily to the right which actually means it will follow the rule of law and the US Constitution. The left was counting on being able to use it to push through their insidious agenda.

It’s just like liberals to want to force gun owners to carry liability insurance and then outlaw it.

Liberals always pushed for gun owners to have insurance.

The NRA implemented Carry Guard.

The leftist mob shut it down.

There is no reasoning with this thoughtless mob.

In May, the state slapped $1 million-plus fines on insurance companies Lockton Cos. and Chubb Ltd., saying they violated state law by marketing and underwriting Carry Guard policies and that the policy improperly provided coverage for criminal proceedings arising from the use of a gun.

In other words the state of New York wants you at their mercy if they should decide to “improperly” accuse you of criminal use of a gun.
