Frequenting the local Knights of Columbus is not part of our weekly ritual. Unlike overreacting to most anything that impugns your elitist inventive church ?

"This is my body, which is given for you. . . This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you..."/i

Which you do not even take as plainly literal. But you just read why and more, and save my arthritic fingers lots of typing.

The whole "scandal" has always been that the Catholic Church does. It seems to me everything turns on whether the New Testament means all the shocking things it says. The Protestant solution to those shocking statements, such as "My flesh is food indeed," was (among most Protestant denominations) to declare that Our Lord didn't mean some of them.

As a convert from atheism reading the Old and New testaments, it seemed clear that Jesus had many shocking things to say, and that they all made sense together--and that it was simply unrealistic to try to lawyer around the ones we found surprising.

“”There’s nothing in the Bible that says you can’t drink alcohol in a responsible manner,” Pastor Chris VanHall told the station.”

You sure are selective with the Bible.

Meaning instead that, being unable to practice what a plainly literal reading of "This is my body, which is given for you. . ." would mean, which is that what the disciples consumed was the same manifestly incarnated flesh and blood of Christ, versus whose appearance and testable properties did not correspond to what the incarnated Christ was (which John warns about), Catholicism was compelled to imagine that visible but actually non-existent bread and wine Christ was really the "true body of Christ!

Which is what is attested to in paganism, not Scripture, and its actually borrows pagan metaphysical theories to justify it.

In contrast, rather than the plainly literal or the metaphysical theory, only the metaphorical view easily conforms to the whole of Scripture .

Which is presented rather than resorting to your specious "it must mean this" premise. .
