TYVM, I enjoyed it! I had forgotten who Virginia Dare was. I read the name and said to myself “self, I know that name. I know it is someone famous, but I can’t remember who.”

So thanks for the very interesting post. I liked the poem/story as well.

I figured out, all by myself, that the “magic” arrows were part of the “fictional/legend” part of your post.

That sure pokes a hole in the hurricane theory. I never had heard that the houses were disassembled, only had heard about the tree carving.

So far after 10 years of testing, the DNA project hasn't turned up anything at all. It's doubtful that these people were assimilated into the native population.

Some interesting dates, too.

* Governor John White, his daughter Eleanor Dare and her husband set sail on the colonist’s ship when she was four or five months pregnant!
* Eleanor gave birth a month after landing. She landed when she was eight months pregnant!
* Governor White landed on his return mission on Virginia Dare’s third birthday, August 18.

Can you imagine the anguish of landing and finding neither your daughter or granddaughter?
