This is a political war, not a legal one. Trump has his eye on the important prize - political destruction of the Democrat brand, and Leftism in general.
The legal victory - which many here on FR are constantly urging Trump to pursue, and hating Jeff Sessions for NOT pursuing, in which all the high level Obama officials go to jail (or better yet, get hanged), would be a short lived victory if it could even be won in the first place.
The problem is that the American people are not comfortable with criminalizing politics. This is why the Democrats are losing so badly to Trump right now - Obama and the Democrats went too far - weaponizing their executive branch and using the state department to amass political power is a no-no with the American people. The Obama deep state holdovers are going too far - The American people do not like a witch hunt. Trump benifits politically as the victim of a political witch hunt - if he were to reverse the roles and instruct his DOJ to prosecute Obama era officials who happened to be members of the opposition party - then Trump would be the witch hunter and Obama and his minions would be the victims. It doesn’t matter what laws were broken - for that matter the laws can be changed - think about that!
Trump is making the case and leading by example - the fact that he is NOT weaponizing his executive branch to fight political battles is making a very, very good impression on the people, while the Democrats and Leftist MSM are letting their fangs show.
That is why Trump will continue to opt out of legal fights against Obama era officials. That is why there will be no Mattis doppelgänger replacing Jeff Sessions as AG. That is why there will be no prosecutions of high level Obama era officials.
He’ll tweet about it and irritate them by taking away their clearances, undoing their trade deals, treaties and regulations, and he’ll call them names. He’ll troll them mercilessly, but he will never let himself get heavy-handed, and he’ll never let his DOJ get heavy handed.
The people want change - they want the swamp drained and they want America First. They want a strong economy and to feel safe. They want common sense and individual liberty. The last thing they want is a heavy handed POTUS accusing his political enemies from the previous administration of treason and carting them off to jail (or to the gallows).
Anyone advocating Trump do that is giving him terrible advice - thank God he totally ignores it!
President Trump please declassify EVERYTHING an lay out the case against this bureaucratic coup d'etat! Do it sooner rather than later!

Their coup d’état failed long ago - the only thing that could have resurrected it would have been a blue wave giving Democrats control of the legislative branch.
That’s not going to happen.
Look, I’m all for having the truth come out and letting the American people find out everything about what these Obama era officials and deep state bureaucrats tried to do. They used the power of the executive branch to try and steal an election from Donald Trump and then when they failed, they tried to frame him for it! This was an unprecedented abuse of power and they should pay dearly for it.
But let’s look at the big picture: this attempted coup d’état was against an elected Republican POTUS and has the Democrat party’s fingerprints all over it.
Why lock up a handful of retired bureaucrats and politicians, who will surely be pardoned by the next Democrat POTUS, when you can disgrace the entire Democrat Party for generations to come?
The Democrat party has done unthinkable damage to the Republic over the last century by posing as the defender of the working class and the have nots - while all the time pushing Marxist redistribution and collectivism on an unsuspecting electorate. They used their MSM political correctness propaganda to set class against class and guilt Americans into a socialist debt spiral and an abject surrender of our military and economic might.
If not for Donald Trump, the Democrat Party would be poised to continue its unconstitutional plunder of the middle class for another century - if the Republic could even last that long.
Trump has an opportunity to deal a death blow to the Democrat Party while at the same time offering Republicans the chance to follow his lead, quit their globalist ways and take the moral high ground. This could be a profoundly far reaching political realignment if Trump continues to play it the way he has been playing it.
The Democrat Party has gotten it’s hands real dirty on this and continues to double down - partly because of their own arrogance and partly because Trump knows how to feign vulnerability bait them into revealing their fangs. He is making it about the Democrat Party so as to destroy their brand.
The way I see it, he can either pin this on some individuals, and lock them up (temporarily), or he can discredit the entire Democrat Party for generations to come..
There is no greater crime than lying to the FBI.
