I don’t think his comment was racist but knowing your opponent is black, why even mention monkey? While harmless, and even a term of endearment (one I use myself with some of my nephews, nieces and grandchildren) he should have known the press would get all over him. He showed bad judgment.
In Ron’s interview with Hannity, he was asked if he thought that the endorsement of President Trump helped him, and he replied:
“Oh, yeah, he (meaning Trump) is the 800 pound gorilla in the room.”
