The loss of the National Museum of Brazil is tragic.
Michel Temer, the president of Brazil, tweeted that it was a sad day for all Brazilians.
The loss of the National Museum collection is incalculable for Brazil, he wrote. Two hundred years of work, research and knowledge have been lost.

So I take it the museum had not been retrofitted with a fire suppression sprinkler system?

The photo I saw on Drudge made the loss look total. Every window lit orange and the roof appeared to have collapsed.

My guess it was thieves trying to cover multi million dollar theft, and it got out of hand. They may have only wanted to burn the less valuable stuff in a section.
I cannot imagine why there was no effective fire suppression system

So I take it the museum had not been retrofitted with a fire suppression sprinkler system? You take it correctly. One does that after a need is shown, such as after a devastating fire.

Yes, if you go to the NYT article or click on the links I posted in the excerpt, there are many images showing during and after shots. Almost total loss.

Whether it was arson or not, some blame the government.

I read that it could be an electrical problem — a short or spark of some sort — or a hot air balloon. Yes, hot air balloon. Evidently it’s a Brazilian tradition to launch small homemade hot air balloons containing candles or some other compact heat-generating flame, and these same balloons often land on rooftops, causing many fires year in and year out.

Doubtless their criminal cabal they call government have diverted critical funds for maintenance and upgrades into their pockets for decades leading to this disaster.
Socialists ruin everything.
