I presume and hope that Gov. Ducey simply didn’t want to pick a candidate and give the person a leg up for the special election, so he picked Kyl as a “caretaker.”

In about four months (technically, four months form yesterday), Kyl will be the senior senator.

Right—so he is filling the seat with a caretaker, until an evil McCain can run outright, I’d imagine.

Give it a rest. There is no one perfect person to pick in the whole world. Got it. No one agrees with anyone else all the time. If he picked Jesus Christ, this thread would have 1,000 posts as to why it is all wrong and the gnashing of teeth could be heard from coast to coast.

Evidently, the current governor wants to run for that seat.

It’s the issue of our time.

But, I’ll go along with you. He sounds better than McCain or Flake.

You both were right. I’m relieved.

Kyl might pretend to be an R on some issues, but he’s as open border as they come. At least a decade ago, Kyl thought he was king, his aides sitting in his bullet-proof office, telling we the peasants that he’s not against amnesty. That said, the only nice thing I can say is that he does not carry the McCommunist name.

Well, he was Jewish. And all Jews are suicidal liberals.

I’ve read it here on FR. So it must be true.

I think he’s for illegal access to the nation. I assume that back in 2007 when he was working with Kennedy that he was talking about amnesty, work permits, and green cards. He was in favor of 15 billion for border fence and security. He opposed sanctuary cities at the time.

My guess is he’s been updated to open border ideas and will probably go along with it.

Pathetic, though not surprising from no-class Cindy

I suspect that much of what John McCain supposedly said over the last six months actually came from Cindy (with John incapacitated). I also suspect that Cindy is the one who poisoned the relationship with Palin (jealous and threatened by a younger, hotter woman)

From what I remember, Kyl was a solid conservative for a long time in the Senate ... MUCH better choice than one of the McCain ladies ...

I couldn’t agree more, the press releases on almost a daily basis for the last couple if not more months were definitely not coming from him, he had to be totally out of it.

This isn’t about Kyl. It’s about Ducey and his political future.

Guess they wanted to be safe. Safe for 2020 but what about 2022? He’ll be what, 80? We need that seat for a minimum 10 years. 4 ain’t good enough.

Which is PDT, not PST. So, it's incorrect.

Arizona has its own timezone since we do not observe DST. Indian reservations are the only exception. So during DST we are on mountain time otherwise we are on pacific.

You are correct. Kyl is the Senate Alum assigned to shepherd Kavanaugh through the Senate visits and process up to the start of the hearings. All USSC nominees in recent times have had a Senate Shepherd. Perfect timing in this case actually.

Kyl only appointed thru January 19, 2019. A new replacement will be named that will serve the rest of the McCain term.

This is a smart move. Assuming Ducey will be making the appointment, the GOP can select someone who will run in 2020. Being in the job for almost two years gives that person a leg up on the nomination, and if selected, in the general election.
