Hi Luv. The prior Friday, I went shopping for a TV because the aging set I owned has transmission issues. That Tuesday, I was all prepared to buy said set. I awaited a call from my brother. My dad, who was babysitting for him, then informed me of what was happening. All of a sudden, my frustration with a TV set was put in perspective. Not much else mattered.
First time poster, long time lurker here.
I was at home with my babies, and my husband called on the phone and told me to turn on the tv, he had heard about a plane hitting in New York. It wasn’t long before I realized we were under attack.
Seeing those poor people jumping out the windows, moms like me, just trying to do their best that day.. they had gone to work with hopes and plans and now they were forced to jump to their death... will always be etched in my mind and my heart broke. Seeing the first tower go down, it seemed like it was just a plume of smoke coming up, it was too inconceivable that the tower had fallen.
Hearing about our President flying around on AF1 because he might be under attack was scary. Seeing no airplanes for the next few days was surreal.All of it was heartbreaking.
Were you able to get said set and get it home to watch what unfolded.
I don’t think I could have stood being cut off at that time. I just wish I had known about FR then. Somewhere to go to TALK about what we were seeing. To try to understand, to make sense of it! Of course, understanding has never happened.
Thank you for breaking your silence to post your story. Every story is important, is part of the fabric of the whole. When I saw people jumping, it just made me shudder. As someone said, what was so horrible that made jumping the better option.
I became so ANGRY at the press when they criticized our president for being in AF1 as he tried to assess the situation and save our country. That was the beginning of REAL fake news, IMHO!
Well, what did you do to memorialize it?

It was a beautiful, sunny Tuesday morning in September, and the “Bug Guy” was busy spraying the inside perimeter of my house in Florida. I had a standing contract for preventive treatment the second Tuesday of every month. The Bug Guy had been the same one for months, and was very polite and friendly. He was a recent immigrant from Pakistan. I was watching Court TV, and remember that it was about a policeman who allegedly murdered his wife. I was a big case at the time, and quite fascinating.
Suddenly, the program was interrupted with a bulletin that a jet plane had crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. Court TV immediately switched to the scene in New York and the Bug Guy and I watched in horror as the second plane went into the North Tower.
As the second plane went in, the Bug Guy rolled his eyes and said in his thick Pakistani accent:
“WHY DO THESE GUYS THINK THAT THEY ARE DOING THIS FOR GOD?”
I stared at him, and he hastily shut his mouth and continued spraying. It was then that I knew that this attack was all about Islamic Terrorists.
I was at work, heading to another building by shuttle bus for an 8 am meeting. Heard about it on the driver’s radio. I thought it was a potentially serious accident from just the report, and I would find out more in the evening. By the time I got out of the meeting, the world had changed.
The TV image was cut maybe two inches at the bottom of the screen as I recall. I did purchase the TV the following day.
Wow. What a chilling moment that must have been.
It had indeed changed. We’ve looked over our shoulders ever since.
I got a phone call from my brother Robert..
He said “Turn on the TV, we’re being attacked!
When the TV came into focus, I saw the second plane hit the other tower.
We were on the phone together, horrified and crying as we saw people leaping off the buildings.
I kept saying “oh no no no no!”
‘Oh God, no!”
I have ALWAYS loved my country, but until that day, I never knew just how much!
I had slept late, slept through it. I was on my way to vote, when I wondered what happened to the polling place. I asked a passing gentleman, and he said, “You didn’t hear? A couple of airplanes ran through the World Trade Center. I stayed glued to the TV, never went to work.
I’m glad you had your brother on the phone with you. It’s good to “be” with loved ones during something so catastrophic.
I’ll bet no one else went to work that day either. It must have given you chills when he said that.
How's everyone this morning?
I was preparing for work when my mother called. Two of my brothers worked in Manhattan. I turned on the news and watched in horror. Every one of my friends and family members back in NY knew someone who died that day. I knew people who died that day. And I wept, for my toddler son, for my unborn daughter. I knew the world I had grown up in was not the one they would inherit.
I screamed at the TV every time they announced where he was. He was doing exactly what he was supposed to do and no one was SUPPOSED to know where he was.

It was deliciously cool here, though cloudy. At least it didn’t rain.
We had another nice day at the lake. Not much else went on. Still watching Florence and praying for the best for our friends on the East Coast.
