Unless Mormons in AZ (and maybe Utah) pressure Flake, I see little chance of him acting like a sane human. His family might be able to talk to him. But he would enjoy giving the people who elected him 6 years ago the Middle Finger Salute before leaving.
I expect him to become a democrat when he’s out of office. They are the only ones in Arizona who will talk to him after this. Of course, he’ll probably stay in DC, and I suspect democrats are the only ones who will talk to him there as well.

Flake is not alone. Congress is a sad mess. I have lived and worked in DC for years (after a career in business, thank god) and have been to many, many meetings and events on Capitol Hill, including with the likes of Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Bill Frist, Newt and others. It is pathetic how screwed up Congress is, both sides, from top to bottom. Old Ross Perot was right about term limits.

It is possible that Grassley has learned, thru the grapevine, that he doesn’t have all the votes he will need. Not only on the committee but on the floor of the Senate.
There is no way they will move forward with the vote, unless they have the votes they need in the bag: think McCain on Obamacare.
