They’re all EU mouthpieces speaking here. The rebels of old didn’t fight and die for Ireland to become vassals of this “superstate”, but that’s where they are right now; they’ll find that whatever the EU turns into in the future will be a far crueler master than the British Empire ever was.

They’ve had the double whammy of IRA and EU influence.

Only when I was a child, and briefly. The Troubles were in full swing back then.

Ireland is receiving more than they are contributing to the EU. It’s about money, not principles.

I never believe that; that comes from the EU’s figures.

The referendum votes on homosexual “marriage” and abortion weren’t due to EU money; people weren’t literally paid to vote the way they did, but they were propagandized.

The EU is pushing for Ireland to raise their corporate tax rate in order to “harmonize” with the larger countries like France and Germany; that’d make them dependent in earnest. Keeping it low actually gave them a chance to become a far larger country than they’ve been, but the politicians are sellouts of their own people and not for money either.

EU only came in in ‘92 and wasn’t in full force until 2002.

The “Troubles” were caused by GB.

I worked ex-pat from ‘92 until 2005.

None of the locals ever pointed a submachine gun at my head on my way to work. Every single day.

It was the Brit soldiers.

The Irish-Catholics that I encountered over 12 years in NI were fairly Marxist.

The couple dozen I’ve met here over the years would fit right in with the democrat socialist.

Nicely done. For the longest time years ago I thought it was related to my college days and what not, but Europe in general is out in left field and left field being out there like Pluto

Where did you get that from? The EU has been around since 1951, and Ireland joined in 1972. It’s the exact same organization, which merely changed its name four times. Even worse, the American political left supported its formation, via the American Committee on United Europe and other organizations.

The “Troubles” were caused by GB
So the communistic Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association had no role whatsoever, nor Sinn Féin who backed them? The riots they caused, and their anti-police violence, led to the presence of troops in the first place.

Never mind the prior Campaign for Sucal Justice, which purported to represent Catholics.

I worked ex-pat from ’92 until 2005. None of the locals ever pointed a submachine gun at my head on my way to work. Every single day. It was the Brit soldiers.
Your two prior falsehoods and omission of pertinent information make your anecdote suspect, with all due respect. Care to reveal what you did to provoke such reactions, or is this hyperbole?

We got trouble from the IRA in the Republic, with bomb scares at places like Shannon Airport (my family and I were going on a trip to Canada to visit relatives).

Now you’re throwing leftist Wikipedia at me.

I know the history of the EU; it started in 1951 as the European Coal and Steel Community, and quickly morphed into the European Economic Community in 1957. Even back then, they had the Commission, Council of Ministers and Parliament—the same Soviet-inspired governmental form as today. When the Republic of Ireland voted in their Third Amendment back in 1972 for joining the EEC, this language was (is) in it:
No provision of this Constitution invalidates laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the State necessitated by the obligations of membership of the Communities—or prevents laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the Communities, or institutions thereof, from having the force of law in the State.
That was the end of the Republic of Ireland. You allow an external body to have its laws contradict your own, thus being superior to your own and your own constitution is no longer the highest law of the land, you have given up your sovereignty. So any whining about the British Empire by any modern-day Irish is laughable to me.
