I think they have bitten off WAY more! TDS has sent them over the edge after almost 2 years. What we saw and are seeing is the culmination of that in some kind of freak show theater. As far as the judges are concerned, it is all bluster about impeachment. It would set off a firestorm politically to their detriment. It would demonstrate that they are batsh*t crazy.
The purpose of this is to dissuade other good judges from being nominated.
