For Our Friends
October 1, 2018
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
John 15:12
In Emily Brontes novel Wuthering Heights, a cantankerous man who often quotes the Bible to criticize others is memorably described as the wearisomest self-righteous Pharisee that ever ransacked a Bible to rake [apply] the promises to himself and fling the curses to his neighbours.
Its a funny line; and it may even bring particular people to mind. But arent we all a bit like thisprone to condemn others failures while excusing our own?
In Scripture some people amazingly did the exact opposite; they were willing to give up Gods promises for them and even be cursed if it would save others. Consider Moses, who said hed rather be blotted out of Gods book than see the Israelites unforgiven (Exodus 32:32). Or Paul, who said hed choose to be cut off from Christ if it meant his people would find Him (Romans 9:3).
As self-righteous as we naturally are, Scripture highlights those who love others more than themselves.
Because ultimately such love points to Jesus. Greater love has no one than this, Jesus taught, than to lay down ones life for ones friends (John 15:13). Even before we knew Him, Jesus loved us to the end (13:1)choosing death to give us life.
Now we are invited into the family of God, to love and be loved like this (15:912). And as we pour into others Christs unimaginable love, the world will catch a glimpse of Him.
Lord, thank You for showing us what it means to love. Help us to love like You.
When we love Christ, we love others.
The important idea of love for one another found in John 15:1214 is rooted in one of Jesuss most enduring teaching imagesthe vine and the branches (vv. 18). Our life so completely flows from being connected to Christ that everything we do, including our ability to love one another, is drawn from His life and power.

Yes...we explored another new trail today which had some elevation...but little footbridges over the streams. We also crossed a huge grassy field, and since there were no other dogs there, I let Penny gallop around off leash a bit. She loved it!
I found out that “Doggie Ice Cream” is just peanut butter flavor, which is not Penny’s favorite, so I gave her some bacon instead!

Howdy, LUV.
Glad you’ve had a good weekend. No head-bonking the pew this morning is a plus. LOL!
Had a good day at the museum yesterday, even though the tail feathers were dragging. Couldn’t sleep Fri. night due to sinuses draining BIG time and strangling me all night.
Slept better last night and had energy today for housework. Ohthethrillofthat. LOL!

Howdy, PRO.
Sounds like a nice relaxing weekend you had. Did you wear out the lil wild man or did he wear you out? LOL
It was a fun day at the museum yesterday and it was good to be back after missing it last Sat. They haven’t moved another crate of uniforms from the shop into my little work corner yet so no cleaning was done yesterday. Not uniforms any way. Just touch-up stuff around the museum, like glass on the display cases and such. I’ll never understand why people feel it’s necessary to put their hands all over glass. But it gives me something to do between tours.

LOL! Yeah, sounds like a fun day, huh? But since the cats refuse to lift a paw to help clean the house, I’m kinda stuck with it.

Since there were no uniforms to clean yesterday, I hung out in the office with the other two who were working while we waited for someone to show up. Laura had a small pile of little pictures (2 1/2" x 2") and said they must be German propaganda pix. She said we needed someone who knows German who could translate what's written on the back of each one. I told her I could translate them. She said, "You know German?" I said, "No, but Google Translate does!" LOL
So I have the little pile of pix on my desk and it should be a fun project this week. Hubby has to bring the magnifying glass in from the garage so I can see the text on the back because it's TINY.
I did manage to squint and translate one last night at least. Here's the pic and translation ...

The murder of Marseilles
The franz. Foreign policy, was anxious to tighten the relations between the Little Entente and France. Alexander von Yugoslavia made a state visit to France on the 9th of October 34 for this purpose. Immediately after the landing he and the franz. Foreign Minister Barthou killed by a revival attack.
Our picture shows Alexander and Barthou just minutes before the assassination attempt.
