Nobody is tipping the state for Wagner.
That idiot actually supports taxing pension income,
which is not currently taxed in PA.
We have the second highest percentage of seniors here after Florida. He could not have taken a more effective position if he wanted to lose.
I was just agreeing with that poster’s point that Trump’s time and efforts are likely better spent elsewhere.
Yeah, but when those polls were showing Hillary up 8 there was actually palpable excitement on the ground here about Trump.
There is none of that about Barletta. I mean, NONE.
Is he struggling as badly as I read?
Eire is the most isolated city of Pennsylvania...closer to Cleveland OH and Buffalo NY than to the burgh.
Altoona/Johnstown would be the heart of Trump country...so would Hershey.
Admittedly, Wagner is a long-shot. He isn’t a particularly strong candidate for other reasons.
As for taxation of pension income... I’m actually OK with that, though I would prefer to see a credit that would keep part untaxed—plenty of states do this.
Taxes buy civilization, and the money has to come from somewhere... since we have the second-highest percentage of seniors nationwide, they still need to contribute toward the state services they use — if I’m paying a percentage based on income, it is reasonable they should too.
Wagner’s problem is he approached it in a ham-fisted manner and has not attempted to nuance Wolf’s attacks or explain why it isn’t as bad as Wolf claims. If PA’s seniors buy into the attack, it is only because they refuse to see that Wolf’s goal is to tax everyone for everything.
I am in favor of letting Trump campaign wherever he feels like it in Trump leaning areas. His energy appears to be infectious and he has plenty of it. The key is that the media will follow him regardless which equates to a whole bunch of free publicity. His modus operandi is to move to the sounds of battle.
Mike Kelly, running for re-election in the PA 16th Congressional district race, can use the assist as well since the district lines have been redrawn to include the east side of Erie; and, he’s running against DiNicola whose race against Phil English some 20 years ago saw the largest inflow of outside money ever seen in a congressional race. It’s been quiet up here so far, but DiNicola is gonna be pushing hard on the back stretch with a D machine at his disposal and there is no formal GOP infrastructure to motivate voters in the city of Erie.
The idea is to break into places that aren’t already solidly “Trump country”—it’s about going to where potential voters can be tipped enough to bring victory. This was the 2016 strategy, and it worked well.
In PA, Erie is one of the best cities to do that. Lots of blue-collar folks with historic Democrat ties, particularly due to the unions. It’s the “purple” area that can be tipped one way or the other.
(Admittedly, there are other possible places too, such as Monessen, a Pittsburgh suburb and former steel town Trump visited late in the 2016 race. It was the place that had the scrap metal behind Trump’s podium.)
I would too--it's not something you say, it's just something you do. But since he said it (or it came out), he could have done something about it. My frustration is that he has done nothing to address it or minimize the damage.
For what it's worth, I didn't vote for him in the primary... he impressed me as a weak candidate even then.
I’m from Washington County and I was in Uniontown last weekend and I can tell you there is NO ENERGY in the western part of the state for Junior Casey. I don’t see how anyone could get out of bed to vote for that guy. If Barletta can somehow give people a reason to vote for him I think he can win.
I am still amazed that when Trump spoke in downtown Philadelphia earlier this week, all of 100 (Philly ABC TV6) or 125 (Philly Inquirer) people showed up to sit in the middle of Broad Street and protest - this is Philadelphia, where every city job from top to bottom is filled with ‘rats, hub of the prototypical Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks counties suburban swing moms, home of at least six major universities, any one of which could have turned out a thousand protestors in minutes - does the left finally understand that it’s gone too far with its disruptions and protests - are they complacent and uninvolved - has H*ll frozen over - Barletta may well stand a chance if the ‘rats are no more engaged than this......
Trump may want to tug Casey’s chain and tie up some Dem funding. And there is just an outside chance that Trump has something coming down the chute to knock the Dems so badly that even Casey is vulnerable.
I voted for Paul Mango in the primary.
He lost. I think in part because we have truly horrible local GOP candidate named Raja who keeps running for various things.
That’s an Indian name. People likely thought that Mango
was too and said no thank-you.
Oh, and regardless of the merits, if you actually go ahead and DO something that is opposed by 70% of the electorate, you are consigning your party to a LOOOOOOOOONG stretch in the wilderness.
You are right. He is a great candidate! He'll be a great Senator.
PDJT is willing to risk his winning percentage going down and potentially turning a one or two of the very difficult races. He is loyal to those who are loyal to him.
You are right. He is a great candidate! He'll be a great Senator.
Big Lou was sounding the alarm on illegal immigration as Mayor of Hazelton back before anyone other than FReepers took it seriously.
He enacted an anti-sanctuary policy in his town.
Remember, Big Lou is like you
He hates wetbacks, too!
Good info, as I’m not much familiar with that corner of the state other than having worked for Halliburton eons ago out of Bradford, and even that’s kinda hazy (lol) .. thanks.
