Democrats, It’s Time to Recognize That Your Kavanaugh Playbook Didn’t Work

Personally, I'd like to see that 51 votes plus one or more defections from nervous red-state Democrats in fear for their embattled seats. If the Republican victory is already assured, then it's easy to anticipate at least one formerly opposed Democrat suddenly switching at the last minute. Joe Manchin has already set the precedent for caving under intense pressure from conservative home-state voters.

Getting 52 votes would be great! That's by far my biggest bet. I'd win $600 at PredictIt, which isn't too bad after deducting the total of about $80 I blew on various small bets on the final vote count and the exact day of the final vote and after deducting the hefty cut PredictIt takes from profits as well as its fee for eventually withdrawing funds. A Las Vegas bookie probably would offer a better return with less nickel-and-diming at every turn, but this is just for fun.

Yeah, yeah, I know -- I'm cynically exploiting the apparent disconnect between the delayed, distorted information the general public gets from watching television news and the more up-to-date, arguably more accurate information available from connected websites. I figure I deserve a little light entertainment after first suffering through the incessant attempts by the Demonrats to steal the election from President Donald J. Trump (hee-hee, I never get tired of saying that name) and the recent hysterical attempts by the Demonrats and their goblin minions to delay and destroy the nomination of a fine man who has been put through more "due process" agony than all other Supreme Court nominees combined.

I rarely gamble outside of an occasional lottery ticket. It's been thirty plus years since I last went to Atlantic City to putter around a bit with the nickel slot machines. Yes, I lost all my nickels and went home with nothing but a full stomach from the buffet. I originally popped into PredictIt only to see what the bettors thought of Brett Kavanaugh's chances but then decided on the spur of the moment to dump a few bucks down the toilet. My account has several long-shot, small-dollar-amount bets riding on 51, 52, 53, 54, and 55 votes as well on as a final vote being delayed until either Sunday or Monday. Who knows? Perhaps Senator Steve Daines will fly back on his friend's private jet to add his "yes" vote very early Sunday morning. Perhaps a desperate, last-ditch ploy by the Demonrats will add one or two more days to the roster of delays. Anything can happen.

Anyways, seeing 50 "yes" votes from a confirmation on Saturday, today, seems to be the heavy favorite. If that happens, then the entire $80 is gone with no winnings. Can you guess how I'll feel about that? Let me tell you -- I'll be as happy as a clam at seeing the Supreme Court greet Brett Kavanaugh as the fifth solidly conservative justice! Sure, I'm uneasy about the fellow's apparent lack of respect for the Fourth Amendment, but that part of the Bill of Rights has been dying the death of a thousand cuts for decades. The man is strong on the Second Amendment, and we might well see Good Things (TM) flowing from that. Yee-haw!

Naturally, FreeRepublic will get a cut of any winnings after fees. The ideal outcome would be 52 "yes" votes in a final confirmation hearing concluded on Sunday or Monday. :^)

reaganaut1: I’ll feel better when I hear 51 ayes!

JohnEBoy: I’m looking for 53!

It came damn close. If Kavanaugh hadn’t had the spine to stand up to them it would have worked.

Exactly. This ‘Sexual McCarthyism” gambit was a trial run. It almost succeeded. All they need to do is tweak the timings.

Not quite.

Your Kavanaugh Playbook Didn’t Work

This is what is called "fighting back" by the #NeverTrumpers. NyeNyeNyeNye - missed this time.

The democratic smear machine engaged in a conspiracy to commit numerous felonies including sedition if not treason. The DNC is a Rackateer Influenced and Corrupt Organization.

And #NeverTrumpers, K was your candidate, not really ours and you still couldn't work up a fight.

Because his Bushlite supporters never would have.

Republicans should threaten to file charges against anyone caught suborning perjury or tampering with witness testimony.

As I posted yesterday, the Senate's Constitutional privilege from arrest does not extend to felonies.

A good test of the limits of the privilege from arrest is in order. If Senators thought there was a real chance of them being arrested for a felony, they would see a line that's not worth crossing.

The problem is, until now the Democrats felt emboldened to do whatever they wanted because Republicans had a history of folding under pressure. Republicans stood firm this time, but standing firm may not be enough next time. A Senator losing their office over criminal activity might do it.

Why do Conservative/Republican/Right Leaning Libertarian writers always try to explain what the Left is doing? I know their job is to write, but there has to be something else they can write about, isn’t there? That clown Erik Erickson is normally the one that tries to prove that he’s so much smarter than anyone else on the planet, in trying to do this.

I don’t want anyone to point out where they went wrong or how their tactics are wrong. We need to encourage them to do more. To continue with their tactics, rage, hatred, protests, confrontations and insane antics. Because every moment that they’re doing something like that, they’re changing the mind of a voter somewhere in America. Somewhere in America, a Centrist/Independent/CenterLeft voter is realizing that they have absolutely nothing in common with the Democratic Party of 2018 and beyond. They have nothing in common with Harris, Warren, Booker, et al. So, they either don’t vote, hold their nose and vote Republican or vote 3rd Party. And it seems like the 3rd party candidates are attracting more Left/Liberal voters and I believe that’s a good thing.

When Ginsberg assumes room temperature, I could see rioting and sadly even acts of terrorism and political assassinations. The leftists have nothing left to do but stage a Bolshevik style revolution to overthrow a legitimately elected government seeing that their attempts at a putsch failed. Fortunately our founding fathers crafted the Second Amendment and our military swears an oath to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic

They will see it as flawed execution.

Exactly. Part of it is the academic/media echo chamber but I think a lot of the activists in this were astonished that people couldn't be bullied out of demanding that they produce evidence, and ended up scrambling when became apparent that they didn't have any. They won't make that mistake next time. They'll have plenty of evidence - all fabricated, but enough to muddy the waters. And it will be the most convincing evidence that money can buy.

Watching the protest live ...

It's hard to find on the big 3 networks.

They MUST realize the more of this stuff they show the electorate; the WORSE the Dems/Libs are going to do in the future.

They've jumped the shark like Greek athletes somersaulting over bulls on an urn!
