As a fellow curmudgeon, I found her speech rather disgusting.

It was overly grandiose, self-serving and the privilege of delivering the speech was purchased by playing the female card against her own party.

Okay, maybe she didn't screw the nation but she did screw her fellow Republicans.

Both her and Murkowski deserve to be abandoned by the Pubbies.

Hero has been thrown around with less meaning these days, case in point that got my blood boiling but take it from where it comes. The ABC today show commentator robin what ever her name is touted a basketball player she was about to interview for coming out gay as a hero and said it numerous times during the interview. This is the other end of the despicable agenda pushed by the left. To me a hero is one who puts him or her self in danger or sacrifices his or her life for another, period end of story. The left bastardizes everything to conform to their distorted agenda

“Curmudgeon Oats for breakfast Mark? Can’t he just say thanks for a job well done and leave it at that?”

Agree. Yes, Collins could just vote yes and be done with it. But, instead she (and her staff) took the time and put in the work to write and deliver a very detailed, comprehensive speech which was very well delivered - and will go a long way toward removing any cloud of uncertainty that may linger from Kavanaugh. Churchillian? No, won’t compare to Churchill’s “we will fight them on the beaches, in the fields” speech but an excellent speech and timely for sure.

She gave examples from what he has done. Did you not watch it (without falling asleep)?

After listening to Susan Collin's defense of Kavanaugh's more liberal court rulings, I'm almost convinced that we need to reject him.****

****- No, not really. Never let the enemy win.

I heard most of her speech. The service she did was to separate all the over-the-top emotional outrage, that had no factual basis, from the real analysis of his professional life and judicial decisions. There were things she said I disagreed with, but I commend her for clearly giving her reasons to confirm based on facts and logic and not on ridiculous platitudes (All women must be believed!, etc.)

To make the whole nation wait for her decision while she supposedly figured it out and then monologuing center stage for most of an hour was a bit melodramatic.

Pop your head out - he will remove portions that conflict with the Constitution if the majority of that law is within Constitutional bounds - not the same as what Roberts did with ObamaCare...if Roberts had merely removed what was Constitutional instead of rewriting it, ObamaCare would not have been.

Let’s not snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, today. Tomorrow would be a much better day for jabs at what she did and why.

actually i kind of disagree. because she is associated with women’s issues, she is taking and will take a terrible pummeling. of course we all say you should stand up for what is right - but the level that demonstrators and critics have descended to is brutal. i know she is now in physical danger and being maligned in a most ugly way by former supporters across the aisle. she and Kavanaugh now have that in common. doing what is right will carry quite the price for her. i give her credit.

I agree. What’s “heroic” isn’t so much her speech, but the fact that she was willing to take SO much leftist hate on her shoulders because she saw an injustice being done.

An hour of melodrama to reach the right decision was worth it.

Having Susan Collins as a positive face to getting Kavanaugh confirmed is a positive for Kavanaugh, Republicans and Trump.

She is a moderate Republican woman known for support of women’s issues
She is from the northeast showing Republicans Are okay to vote for in the Northeast.
Very difficult for the media and Democrats to attack.
Shows Republicans are being thoughtful and practical in deliberations about Kavanaugh unlike Democrats.
Every vote she sways to help elect a Republican in November is gold if we keep house and Senate.
Win the war and not try to win every little battle or denigrate commander for not fighting every battle. Trump in control and driving change with reluctant allies is better than Trump with a house and Senate out to defeat him at every turn.
Would we have been better off today with Luther Strange as A Republican Senator in AL rather than dying on the Roy Moore Hill?

Collins speech was a brilliant team play by the GOP and Mitch McConnell. She was chosen to give the speech and as a team player she did. It cold cocked the left and by dragging out her answer for 45 minutes it made everyone listen.

You may be right. We also don't know Collins' role in the Murkowski-Flake discussions. Collins may have been key to keeping Flake on board. This was one of those tight corners where personal relationships among the Senators themselves are often decisive. It's almost impossible from the outside to know what really happened.

Collins' speech was not written at the last minute.
