Why do you have to trash someone for doing the right thing? It was a good speech that laid out the important facts which nobody else did.

Job well done? The ONLY reason there should have been any question about Kavanaugh was the outside chance he might go “Kennedy “ on us. Is she a hero? No, no more than 50 other senators. Is she a squishy RINO drama queen? Absolutely.

Wow. Get up on the wrong side of the bed, Mark? I see nothing to criticize in that speech; she may have made some converts.

It was a great speech in terms of reaching out to women and independents and explaining her vote. I think she won over a lot of people in the public arena.

Her minimum standard for credibility — was it more likely true than not? — will become a classic way to evaluate such claims without appearing too callous.

And she was merciless with the Democrats, erring only by exonerating Diane Feinstein of leaking the letter.

She was wrong to believe Blasey Ford experienced sexual harassment by anyone — she was just acting out a scandalous lie. But, Senator Collins’s willingness to give Blasey Ford the benefit of the doubt and be sympathetic to her plight was good optics in the court of public opinion. It absolutely sealed the deal for Kavanaugh.

I say kudos to Senator Collins. It was a speech that will go down in history and will long be remembered as a speech that changed the course of history, cementing a conservative majority on the Supreme Court. She also rescued a good man from the vicious slanders against him by a lying activist in a concerted plot organized by the wicked and tyrannical Democrat Party aided by paid-for mobs getting in everyone’s face.

It is an enormous accomplishment for a single speech at a critical moment.

The Left is weeping in sorrow today and we can rejoice in their tears.

One thing that must be noted....Both Collins's vote and Murkowski's vote were contrary to the will of the majority of their state's population.

I'm convinced that the majority of both states oppose the vote of their Senator.

I am glad, and to be honest shocked, she voted for confirmation.

And I expect that she will see quite a bit of blowback for it come election time. Some former FReeper friends of mine in Maine were stating that she is going to be bounced out hard.

It seems to me that she may well have saved this nomination for us and a Supreme Court majority along with it. No, I’m not going to criticize her for that. I have my disagreements with her, but she came up big yesterday when we needed it the most.

Is it possible that if we knew of some Judge Kavanaugh’s left leanings in his rulings there would have been no reason for the Left’s verbal lynching show? WE would have not backed him ourselves.

They did not give an honest conversation a chance, instead they went full Stupid.

Maine Republicans are just about fed up with Sen. Collins. If she had voted No she would have lost her seat on 2020 and would be run out of the State!

No Republican Senator should ever vote for any Democrat President’s Supreme Court nominee ever again.

Good speech, but not epic.

***************

By the low standards and expectations of today’s senate it was remarkable. Everything is relative.

“I couldn’t help but notice in her speech that she said Feinstein was a woman of “integrity”...”

She said that?

How can anyone see this speech and not be sick?

Just to start, and don’t get me started, Feinstein employed a Chinese operative on her household staff. Had him in senate intelligence meetings as though to give him top secret security clearance. It continues to go unnoticed in our antiamerican culture. But Collins knows very well and calls her anything but a double agent?

Talk about deplorable.

It might have been melodrama, but the Republicans, and Kavanaugh most of all, needed that clear defense of his history as a man and as a judge. She laid her sympathy for Ford on too thick, but then pointed out clearly the gaping holes in Ford’s story.

I don’t know if she wrote that speech, but it was a great speech, delivered well and at the right time. Kudos to her and to whoever built that plan, because it was masterful.

No, we haven’t “sunk low.” We’ve acted rationally and fairly praised somebody we don’t like and disagree with when she finally does the right thing. And make no mistake...this is going to be at great to cost her with the left to whom she used to be such a hero, so it was a brave thing. As I mentioned earlier, these freaks are already on their way to Maine to harras her and persecute her.

Don’t harsh my buzz, Mark.

From her, it was remarkable. Very well done.

I do agree with the Great One about this:

‘Her speech painted Bret Kavanaugh as a bit of an activist.’

Yeah. I hope Trump knows what he’s doing, for that and another reason.

But here is where Levin is wrong.

I tried to tell people many times in this forum that Collins ROCKED during the Thompson hearing on Chinagate. No senator there did better work or invested more time [although Larry Nickles could have. His brief participation was even more intense.]

Susan Collins thirsts for righteousness. She is a lady-knight.

Flawed in her beliefs, but I don’t want to see her replaced by another Feinstein.

Uups. I forget Senator Nickles’ fist name at the moment. Larry Nichols was someone I’m quoting in another post.

Sorry.
