I can see lots of lawyers taking the case pro bono. Avenetti at least should be punished, and Svetnick. Punishment by trial. Even if they get nothing from the defendants, the effort is worthwhile. Mark Judge and other victims of these smears are far from “public persons”. Howie Carr bought a condo in West Palm Beach with the settlement his wife got from Imus when he went after her.
Howie Carr publicly ridiculed Mike Barnicle for years and when the Globe fired him for plagiarism and fabrication (his best columns were fabrications, imho) Carr was gleeful. Imus was a friend of Barnicle, and tried to extract revenge by saying that Howie Carr was just jealous because Riddick Bowe was having an affair with his wife, and described the sex acts they purportedly engaged in in graphic detail.
