saying that white nationalist protesters were there to oppose the removal of a “very, very important” statue.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The event at Charlottesville was staged to make ANYONE who opposed the erasure of American history be labeled a white nationalist.
This began with Nikki Haley and the Battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia in South Carolina after a murder that had nothing to do with Civil War history.
I’m in the middle of a book about Lee.
Lee was the military advisor to Jefferson Davis.
The Union Army was about ready to take Richmond when Lee took over the Army of Northern Virginia.
I’m not a real Civil War buff.
Lee was a winner.
The whole point was Grant being born in Ohio. He also mentioned Neil Armstrong and the Wright brothers. The President was correct in his history.
Lee defeated every general that Lincoln threw at him. Grant defeated Lee because he was willing to send men to their deaths by the tens of thousands in an effort to overwhelm Lee. Lee, with far fewer resources and dwindling manpower, couldn’t keep up the fight.
Lee was a great general. There is nothing wrong in recognizing talent.
Rommel was a great general of WW2 fame. So was Guderian. Yamamoto was a great admiral....until Midway.
Lee was on the wrong side of the war, but if you look at his actions militarily he was a great general.
Ha. The President speaks truth, and panty waists in fake news soil their britches.
Well, some of you have already named-dropped Erwin Rommel. Then there is Albert Kesselring (my favorite under-appreciated German commander).
Napoleon Bonaparte was a egomaniacal dictator--and yet he is also widely regarded as one of history's most able generals. Shall we mention Julius Caesar? Then let's go to Oliver Cromwell.
No one in polite society today endorses the politics of these men--but any historically literate person knows these guys kicked major ass.
One of the greatest, if not the greatest American general.
Lee was a great General. His tactics at Chancellorsville are still studied and used today. Dividing his army three times in the face of the enemy while being outnumbered three to one, was nothing short of a masterful use of speed and maneuver as a force multiplier.
“I have search the history of the world and have found no general US Grants equal.”
RE Lee, some time after the civil war was over.
Other than than Cold Harbor, and even that wasnt a true loss, Grant NEVER lost a battle. Lee did.
This is disgusting. I even saw a liberal defending Trump on Twitter (he got a lot of likes and RTs too). They are making it sound like Trump was actively out there supporting the confederacy when his whole point is that Lee was a good general, so Lincoln had to find someone to beat him. Lincoln found Grant who, despite issues with alcohol, was able to win.
They know the liberals will never watch his speech for the most part & will fall for that headline bait. A quick look at Twitter shows that. The sad thing is, they crave that reaction, but what they want are to do is reach moderates. If they have to upset African Americans who are mislead by that headline and think Trump supports the confederacy because they didn’t see the rally, they don’t care. They are willing to do that for Dem votes. Incredibly divisive, racist, and disgusting.
General Grant was a great general the way Smokin’ Joe Frazier was a great boxer and Larry Csonka was a great football player. They came right at you. They were relentless.
Once again, Trump is right. Lee was a great general. Everybody from Eisenhower to Winston Churchill along with many others have said so. There is NOTHING remotely “controversial” about that.....though of course we can count on Leftists and some misguided PC Revisionists here to try to claim his statement was in some way controversial.
Trump: 'Robert E. Lee was a great general'
Trump was citing a historical fact. Lee was a great general, and every single Civil War historian and scholar who is not insane will verify the President's claim.
Trump went on to say, multiple times, that Grant had a drinking problem, saying that the former president "knocked the hell out of everyone" as a Union general.
"Man was he a good general. And he’s finally being recognized as a great general," Trump added.
Grant was recognized as a great general long before now.
