My user settings for GAB must have been set perfectly. I followed a specific list of people and that is all that I would see. Never encountered objectionable material while reading there."

No idea what my settings were on Gab but I only saw a bit of antisemitic chatter along with the same level of anti-Islamic chatter you read on FR on any given day. I don't recall seeing any porn on there but I wasn't seeking it out. That is just an excuse IMO if that is the reason for their service interruption.

I haven't seen a clear statement by the owners of Gab stating what justification was used by the host to close them down. And yes, it does matter, even if it is suspected there were other reasons.

And yet, despite that, it remains the foundation of the First Amendment.

Would you care to also engage in character assassination of the Founders who thought the idea had enough merit to make it the First Amendment?

Yeah. After Trump, if we’re fortunate enough to keep him for 8 years, life will radically change.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS REAL

(for ~1.8% of the US population)

“Anti-semitism has very old roots in Europe. I don’t get it or racism personally.”

Long, long ago Jews controlled international finance. Rulers borrowed from them and then blamed them when the country couldn’t pay.
Don’t know why the concept remains, international financiers are of all stripes these days.

I have never seen porn on there, but understand that it is there if I turn it on in the settings. I did see antisemite stuff and was horrified, deleted my account, and left. Andrew Torba sent me an email asking me to return and explained how to setup my account so that I would not see it. I think those instructions are now given when one signs up as I’ve seen many messaged with ithe instructions when they make their first post.

No, it does not remain the foundation of the First Amendment. Freedom of speech is part of the First Amendment but not the foundation of it. Religion came first. Freedom of speech has limits. It is only in the modern progressive (decadent) era that courts of extended it to madness.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Jews handled banking and money because Christians were not allowed to do so. Some of that thinking still exists.

In at least one very old Christian country that I visited handling large sums of money was still considered a bad idea because of the temptation involved.

I have often wondered if this was not a huge root of anti-semitism. I believe some writings have explored this idea as well

It's astonishing to me that EVEN ONE Freeper would support shutting down a platform that caters to free speech as the deep state shuts down American patriots' free speech piece by piece.

Do you really want to go back to the days when the left controlled the signal?

Really????

What type of free speech does the First Amendment not support?

I'll answer first. Spoken threats of violence should be illegal.

What else?

The stuff I saw posted on Twitter today absolutely gut-punched me.

But I know some people who are extremely racist. I argue with them about it. There is no reaching them. Like their minds are turned off to any kind of self examination.

The only deep hatred I have is toward the dogmeat industry. It’s fascinating to explore this stuff, to me at least.

I agree. Free speech means protecting despicable words and speech. This is elemental in a free society. Either we are free or we are not. I do not have to agree with the speech to defend it. This is classical liberalism in a nutshell. I don’t want to read vile words or see vile images. In fact in the marketplace of ideas the vile needs to be held up and exposure for the bankruptcy of thought that it represents. Either we aRe free or we are not. Which will it be

A valid point however - look what happened in Rwanda. Many believe that Hutu radio brought on the genocide.

Look at our own MSM. Look at the left speaking of kicking us, etc.
Calling us cockroaches. Video games with Trump being killed.

as if nobody on twitter or fb has ever committed a murder? you ban THEIR accounts not shut down the entire site.

This is becoming insane. Very good point.

You are a trusting soul. I took three social psych classes in college. Dehumanizing a class of people and encouraging violence against them is not that difficult. Just ask Stanley Milgram.

And then there is the corollary to your asinine argument...

If you aren’t guilty you shouldn’t care if we come in and rummage through your pantie drawer.

They were de-platformed for no greater reason than that the shooter had a (not very active nor interactive) account there.

It’s as flimsy an excuse as you can imagine. Not one other social media service would be operating if these same conditions applied.

Guy who shot Scalise had a Twitter account. Murders and tortures have been livestreamed on Facebook. Child porn is common on Instagram. Etc. etc. etc.

If this is the standard no one is safe, including FR.

In fact, I’d say this is the first time in 20+ years I’ve been here where I’d say there is now a genuine reason to be concerned that FR will be politically de-platformed as well, with all that is needed for FR to disappear being an excuse.

In other words, FR could disappear tomorrow, if someone with an account here goes postal. Even if that person is a leftist and not conservative at all. Meanwhile the same does NOT apply to the litany of death threats constantly streaming from the Left.

I agree. it’s scary.

Absolutely. So why let the anti-American left (Derp State) control the signal and have the power.

There is power in the freedom of information sharing.

Don't let them strip us of it.

If we do, they will win. You won't like that America.
