I dare say it actually ended at the end of December 1991, with the official end of the Soviet Union.

I have long thought that the era from 1914 to 1991 will one day be regarded by historians as “The Long War”.

Everyone should watch “Paths Of Glory”. Sums up the entire insanity of the war right there.

The armistice was agreed on at 6 a.m. on November 11th but did not go into effect until 11 a.m. Some generals insisted on fighting in the interval. I was told 5,000 men died in the interval...more than the US lost in Iraq from 2003 to 2011.

The World War I Germans were MUCH more dangerous than the WWII Germans. Why? Because their leaders weren't hell-bent on turning the war into Racial War.

The Imperial Germans were anti-Semitic, but they were smart enough to know that German Jews were just as patriotic and would contribute to their nation.

Because the Nazis were so arrogant, they drove away potential allies (such as the Ukrainians and White Russians). The Germans who did escape the Nazis became valuable to the Allies.

The Germans wanted to get payback for what the Allies did in WW I. However, the Generals wanted to wait until they were fully mechanized and had equipment and personnel required to win a war...they wanted to start the war around 1943-44.

The Nazis lost WW II on September 1, 1939.

The Soviet Union was going to eventually invade anyway, probably by around 1943.

Funny how Austria always seems to avoid their share of the blame.

After all, they’re the ones who gave Hitler to the world.

As the joke says, Austria tries to convince the world that Beethoven was Austrian, and that Hitler was German.

I've thought about this scenario- if Hitler had held off of invading Poland, and instead had tried to turn them into an ally against the USSR, Hitler might've been able to invade Russia, with the help of the Brits and the French.

Lots of if, ands, and buts here. Plus Hitler was a Sociopath, who relied on his instincts which made him a brilliant politician, but a horrible military commander.

P.S. Hitler hated the Jews, but he wasn't the only Euro who hated Jews. However, because he devoted so much money, personnel, materiel, and blood to destroying the Jewish race, he is the biggest promoter of Communism in the 20th Century. Why? Because he gave the Communists something they never had before nor after- the moral high ground.

Fact is, Hitler wanted Poland as an ally, he greatly admired Marshall Pilsudski, even attending a memorial service for him when he died.

But when Poland allied with England and France, Hitler decided that Poland must be eliminated.

There’s an interesting theory as to why Poles were subject to such harsh treatment compared with the other occupied countries.

The Nazis were convinced, despite Poles being considered Slavs, Poles and Germans mixed over the centuries, providing Poles with “good blood” that could be used against the Germans, if they weren’t eliminated as a race.

That explains why the Nazis never used Poles as guards at the Death Camps, the last thing they wanted to do was give a Pole a rifle.

I understand all that, but without American troops to break the stalemate they would probably still be fighting.
