Hey there, Kathy!

Yes, it warmed up nicely and will be decent for the next week at least. Old Man Winter needs to wait until next month before putting us in the deep freeze again!

Any more rain or snow in your forecast or will you have decent weather for a while yet?

Speaking of "Dream" songs:

Dream--The Pied Pipers (1945)

Now, flip it over! The other side is better:

Dammit, I keep forgetting to say this is a Stan Kenton arrangement. Y’all can look that up yourself. I’m not gonna hijack this thread anymore than I have.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

”DOWN ARGENTINE WAY”

And just like that, it was over. Jack Warner had scored more misses than hits with his musicals in the 1930s. The division would continue with “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” but the fire was out. Harry had signed with Vitagraph in 1925, learned the movie trade in Brooklyn, and moved to Warners when the studio acquired Vitagraph and its patented Vitaphone sound system. Now it was time to find a new home.

Over at 20th Century Fox, the musical division was producing hits, and Harry signed with Daryl Zanuck, teaming with lyricist Mack Gordon. Unlike the Warners musicals, which were shot in black and white, Fox opted for color.

This 1940 film of the same title featured Betty Grable, Carmen Miranda, and a master of light comedy, Don Ameche. Catch that fine tenor voice in this clip from the movie! This song was nominated for an Oscar, but “When You Wish Upon a Star” won for that year.

In 1982, long after his retirement, a recommendation from Ralph Bellamy brought Don back to work in “Trading Places,” a John Landis comedy featuring Dan Ackroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis and Eddie Murphy. Don’s career took off again.

Don Ameche & Betty Grable: “Down Argentine Way”

This clip from the movie features the dancing brothers. We’ve lost so much in 78 years.

I have that Modernaires disc in my collection.

While it was riding the charts in late 1966-early ‘67, the Electric Prunes’ opus was the most popular song on the radio among my high school classmates.

I hadn’t heard of the Modernaires until tonight. I get in the mood to check out some of the oldies once in a while but hadn’t run across them.

I wore out a couple of 45’s of the Electric Prunes when it came out because I played it so much. LOL! I still like the song a lot.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

”DOWN ARGENTINE WAY”

And so they lined up to record it. Unlike Jerome Kern, Harry had no problem with songs taken out of context from the originating show. This was about money!

That was a fun song with Ameche and Grable! I kept expecting her to rip off that skirt to show off her famous legs. LOL!

I didn’t see anything on the floor. Maybe he saw a gecko head in there and thought he’d give chase. Funny thing....when I got up, turned on the light, opened the closet doors up to try to find him and chastise him, he came strolling in from the hall with a look that said...”what are you doing. I was getting a drink in the kitxhen.” LOL

Running to the grocery store is quite enough entertainment for a night owl! I actually shopped! First time since retiring. I needed some new tights for the colder Sundays when I wear dresses. My legs get SO cold!

Hope your weather continues to improve!
