Thanks - I didn’t read all the replies as promised to myself before I posted about her... Sure amazing what she will do for attention so you can bet on her taking full advantage of any new rule about hats in Congressional sessions.
Have they stopped saying the opening prayer yet?
I’m surprised by the existence of the law, without any exception. I would’ve figured that exemptions for, say, yarmulkes would’ve passed ages ago.
It’s a religious thing, so First Amendment. Congress should be neutral on religion, right? So change the law, otherwise it’ll get challenged in court and struck down, and the courts shouldn’t have any say in it.
Not a law. It’s a congressional rule that the members set up for themselves. It has for a very long time been considered rude to wear a hat indoors.
Why the kippah was included in the rule originally I’m unsure as it isn’t a hat per se.
But there is no need to change the rule now other than to kow-tow to a particular religion.
When are they going to give them breaks so they can pray, and foot baths? And Halal food to be made available with the Congressional Food Service department?
Or a Crusader tunic/surcoat with a big Crusader Cross/Jerusalem Cross on front and back.
That will all happen during the 2019 session of congress.

How soon before they demand Halal meals in the Congressional cafeteria? If they already serve Kosher, then we are screwed.

If they're changing the rule they should allow hats, not religious garb which will cause more controversy in the future. My understanding the tradition dates to the pre Revolution House of Commons where members wore hats to demonstrate their independence from the King. Dems could wear them to protest the President. Or a fashion statement
A Somalia came to the United States as a refugee, is now a congresswoman, and demands we change. A shocking chain of events. Not. How about go back to where she came from? Let me guess her political platform- get free stuff and take from other people while changing the US to what she thinks it should be (possibly turning it into a hellhole she would not have wanted to come to).
If America acts like a whore the world will treat America like a whore which is the current state of affairs. Very sad. Worse, people fight to keep it this way.
