No. Prior to 1994, the Evangelicals were not a major factor in elections. If you ranked labor unions, NRA, etc Evangelicals as an identity were not in the top 20 as a factor in National Elections.

But Reagan was the first Republican to get a Majority of the Evangelical vote, to the extent it existed. William Jennings Bryan secured the Evangelical vote in the 1890s. It was more Democrat than Republican until Reagan.

As a kid, my Evangelical churches mostly didn’t vote. Maybe 15% voted Democrat and 5% Republican. But overwhelmingly they did not want to get dirty. It was unChristian to get involved in worldly politics.

Ralph Reed is constantly running up not against the Evangelical Democrats, but against the holier-than-thou Evangelicals who want to be neither in the world, nor of the world.

I'll take that as a Yes vote for the continued gutterization of the English language.

Bush caused Ross Perot.

Ross Perot cost Bush the Election, which in turn caused Clinton.

He got played badly by the dims.

Hiring Donald John Trump as his Press Secretary on a 6-month contract MIGHT have saved his bacon.

Did I miss the mention of Ross Perot in the article? Any discussion of why Bush lost in 1992that does not mention either Ross Perot or the fact that H.W. did not even campaign until after the Republican convention is really lacking. HW’s approval rating after Gulf War 1was so high that he thought he was a shoo-in. We had expected the third term of Reagan and had been very disappointed.

But then, in 1990, under pressure to strike a budget deal with the Democratic-controlled Congress, Bush relented and agreed to hike taxes.

The pressure was Democrats cutting funding to troops in the field if he didn’t concede their tax cuts. He did get provisions limiting the growth of spending out of them, which combined with the tax cuts and welfare reform the Republican Congress forced Clinton to sign, came very close to balancing the budget.

It was ironic that the Democrats used such underhanded tactics to force him to break this pledge, then condemned him for cooperating with them. Republicans joined in in presenting it as his own doing - and then we got a President who pledged middle-class tax cuts but turned them into tax increases before he even made it into office.

The term “Voodoo economics” to describe Reagan’s economic policies was coined by none other than GHWB.
Yep, he torpedoed Reagan’s policies about day one of his administration.

Was that not said during the primaries when both were fighting for the nomination?

Back them I didn’t pay much attention to Politics.
My Job was 24/7/365.

I Voted for Perot in 1992, a decision I still regret. I actually thought back then that a 3rd Party Candidate had a shot, silly me.

Now I see these wasted Votes for Libertarians that in some cases cause the Republican Candidate to lose an Election to a Rat and it just pisses me off.

Some people never learn that you don’t win against an enemy by kneecapping the only person that would prevent that same enemy from gaining a foothold.

Yeah, that too. Or not abolishing the departments of education & energy, which I think I remember he campaigned on. I think he prioritized responding to the Soviet Union so much that he really didn’t engage on domestic issues. Unfortunate.

You’ll find that most of the time it’s just a typo or someone not thinking as writing.

But if it’s important to you knock yourself out as I was being somewhat tongue in cheek. That being said , most around here find the practice a bit irriating so expect some pushback.

You are correct. I along with many others that wanted to vote for Bush voted for Perot because Bush lied to our face and it was an absolute lie and we new it.

I know. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, I just read past such errors, even when they're clearly cases of poor grammar, punctuation, or spelling. A man can't sit and grade posts for proper English all day long ;-)

I point out errors maybe twice a day, just to emphasize the point that our language is precious, and should be preserved.

My apologies, if I offended.

Of course, since the media controlled the message, just like today.
