My recollection is that Bush made a deal with the Dems, I believe it was Ted Kennedy. The Dems said if Bush would come off his pledge, “no new taxes,” they would approve a sizable reduction in expenditures. He did approve the taxes, the Dems reneged. Bush 41 lost the election as the Dems make a big deal of Bush’s new taxes. How do you remember it?

Never trust a Democrat!

“Bush ‘41 lost the election because Ross Perot siphoned off enough repub votes to saddle America with the Clinton plague...which is still with us today.

Thanks, Ross, you moron.””

I voted for GHW Bush in ‘92 but it did not help any when he glanced at his watch and looked bored during a “debate” with Clinton. I got the impression that he really did not want to be reelected.

I remember the 1992 election very well, and I also remember repeatedly saying that Bush was acting like his heart was not in winning re-election. In 1992 he ran the most tepid and aloof presidential campaign in American history, even moreso than Bob Dole’s pathetic run four years later.

Of course. LOL. I wasn’t referring to what YOU said ... but what you were told by someone else! Tell him he’s full of it! :-)

H Ross Perot was against offshoring American industry.

If he would have won, America would not have a huge trade deficit, with the largest and most powerful communist county in the history of the entire globe.

Just saying.

He broke his word.

He caused his own loss.

I've yet to meet a Perot voter who would have voted for Bush had he not been in.

I voted for Perot. I would not have voted for Clinton, as I recognized him as a con artist, but I refused to vote for GHWB after he broke his "Read my lips, no new taxes" pledge.

Had Perot not been on the ballot, I would have voted for all of the other races, but left the Presidential section empty.

True story. As I voted for Perot (on the old mechanical behind-the-curtain voting machines) I said, "Read my lips, asshole," apparently loud enough for others to hear, as I heard people chuckling in response. I wasn't the only one who didn't appreciate his betrayal. Well played, Democrats!

Altho I voted for Bush, Perot changed me politically. For me, I knew NAFTA & the WTO stunk to high heaven and after ‘92 the Rs and me were kaput until Trump. Since Trump I’ve voted straight R, but if they become the party of Paul Ryan & Mitt Romney, rather than DJT, I’ll be look for alternatives. I owe them zero allegiance.

I thought EVERYONE knew this.

He lost because the Democrats talked him into raising taxes at that stupid economy summit.

Then, run video of him saying ad nauseum, “Read My Lips, NO NEW TAXES”.

The end.

An incumbent president, with a previous approval rate of 89%. Yes, EIGHTY NINE PER CENT!!!!!, went on to total defeat in his reelection bid.

It was “Read My Lips, NO NEW TAXES”.

He made a pledge, a commitment, a covenant, a vow, with the American people and he broke it.
