The Republic can be saved.

It starts in the home, in the family. If Christians, conservatives, traditionalists, libertarians would stop handing their children over to the socialist government schools to have their character molded by the enemy, we could turn things around in a generation. But even here in FR, where many seem to be aware of what is at stake, there is a resistance to taking this step. Collectively, we imagine a “vain thing”, that the next generation is in good hands. It isn’t. This is heartbreaking.

Actually he was watching Trump and Melania if you blow the photo up you can see better.

However duly noted that Cheney sat directly behind the Clintons and Obam’as so I doubt any of the tomfoolery they were previously laughing about together didn't get past eagle eye Cheney.

Thanks for your compassionate and courteous comments on this thread. They are appreciated. George H.W. Bush was far from my favorite President, but he had many good qualities. The needless rancorous comments on this thread do not compliment those who make them. Too many among us seem to be becoming more like the Democrats in character each day. Thanks for being a bright spot on a dark thread...

Ditto!

The relief from the spectacle of the McCain circus was reason enough to simply appreciate the higher-class decorum from which this family sprang. GHWB was not a president I admired particularly, but his love of friends and family was unmistakeable. I appreciated the worship of Christ, as well, and was shocked to see Obama mouthing the words of the Apostle's Creed while President Trump did not; however, these actions on one or both parts may also have been a deliberate illusion.

As for the smarmy Episcopal establishment and dykey priests, at least they all behaved with discretion and there was no special-victim-issue grandstanding like that loon pastor at Prince Harry's wedding slating the Queen over slavery, which England outlawed almost 200 years ago.

The speech by Brian Mulroney was exceptional, certainly including his tribute to the United States as the greatest democracy the world has ever seen—this from the former PM of Canada. How I pray that the U.S.A. survives the current crisis.

It was very good to see photos and video of the rapprochement between the Dubya family and the Trumps the day before at Blair House, with genuine smiles. Laura was very animated, and the men were cordial. This is a good thing.

When the pastor spoke of James Baker's long friendship, and devotion at the end of HW's life, it was very touching to see Baker's wife clasp his hand as he broke down in tears, as did Senator Alan Simpson sitting behind him, whose earlier eulogy about the buddy relationship between the Bushes and the Simpsons was very enjoyable and made everyone laugh heartily a dozen times or more—surely a needed relief. Simpson and Bush41 seemed to be eternal frat boys for one another.

I was also struck by the sense of humor that GHWB possessed and clearly transmitted to his family members. He certainly instilled great confidence in his descendants by teaching them to understand that failures are a part of life, but to keep going and not wallow in uncertainty. That kind of forgiveness and encouragement was the wind beneath the wings of his dorky sons, who with a harsh father would not have achieved what they did.

This funeral has given me a lot to think about.

Oh sure, they felt they were clever enough to build in safeguards, checks and balances into the constitution, but it proved easily corrupted by adopting full franchise.

But we can't blame the Founders for that asininity. I'm not the only woman who rues the day women got the vote, without which we would not have legalized mortal sins like abortion and gay marriage in this country. And don't get me started on the welfare layabouts and illegals voting.

It’s such a shame that people aren’t allowed to kneel and pray or stop and pray without being shoo’d on by security. Makes me sick and sad watching it.

The terrorists have won. SMH.

Trump looked bored to death

More conscious of the time wasted on pomp and circumstance when he would rather have been working. He did tap his fingers together and other fidgets; but looked quite riveted during some of the eulogies, especially Mulroney's.

Thank you.....well stated and expressed what most of us saw and heard. Bush Senior would have been pleased as they carried out what he wanted.

I think it’s more there are far too many nut cases, who are extremely bold, out there today....I know I’m far more careful even during day light hours than I was only just a few couple ago.

I think Jimmuh looked pale as Death.

If they had an extra box he could have jumped in it and made the Funeral a two-fer one.

I found it odd that George W. Bush wasn’t there with him when he passed. He said that when he heard about his dad - he called him. That his dad hadn’t spoken much all day. Well, it seems to me that he had all day to get down there. Dallas is only a 4 hour drive and 30 minite flight from Houston, why didn’t he go to be with him at that time. Isn’t that what families do? I am struck by how odd that is.
