The problem in France is with the French oil company Total.

Total wanted to make the transition from fossil fuel to renewables so they bought a battery manufacturer a few months ago and then began negotiating with other companies to create a consortium of European companies to make batteries for all the car manufacturers in Europe.

But Total is going to need a subsidy from the French govt, and worse, Siemens is one of the other companies in the consortium and the German govt has already come up with a $ Billion for a subsidy.

Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about the Paris Accord, because the right person won in 2016. May he do so in 2020.

We are told that the agreement is not binding. Very few are meeting the terms now. Just another feel good moment with little real world consequences. Will the developed countries fork over billions to the UN and the Third World?

The only reason these things are held is for the elite to travel in private jets by the thousands to dine on the best food and drink offered worldwide.

You wrote “I don’t have any real problem with markets.”

These “carbon markets” are pure hokum. They never spontaneously pop into existence of their own accord. They are fictitious, artificial contrivances created by government to push their zero-carbon agenda. These are most certainly NOT free markets.

don’t fall for the FakeNewsMSM spin. the gloBULL warming activists are fuming because, after 3 years of talking, basically nothing was agreed:

15 Dec: UK Independent: COP24: Environmental groups criticise ‘morally unacceptable’ climate deal reached after major Poland summit
by Tom Batchelor
And the meeting postponed decisions on pledging more ambitious action to fight global warming and on regulating the market for international carbon emissions trading...

Alarmed by efforts to include this in the final text of the meeting, the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait blocked an endorsement of the IPCC report mid-way through this month’s talks in the Polish city of Katowice...
The final text at the UN talks omits a previous reference to specific reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and merely welcomes the “timely completion” of the IPCC report, not its conclusions...

15 Dec: CommonDreams: ‘Morally Unacceptable’: Final Deal Out of COP24 Sorely Lacking in Urgency and Action, Climate Campaigners Say
“The weak outcome of this COP runs contrary to stark warnings of the IPCC report and growing demand for action from citizens.”
by Julia Conley
Climate action groups slammed the outcome of the 24th annual Conference of the Parties (COP24) in Katowice, Poland on Saturday...
While it calls on wealthier countries to clarify how they will provide aid to less well-off countries, many of which are on the front lines of the climate crisis, more in-depth talks about developing countries needs were put off until next year...

Since the U.S. is no longer part of this scheme, who is going to fund it? Sounds like hillary and Al Gore need to start a gofundme site.

At first I wondered why Poland agreed to host this meeting. Then I realized that it is winter in Poland and all of this bs and hot air can melt the snow and keep the ground warmer for a while . Good plan, Poland!!!

Nearly 200 nations have agreed . .

There are only 195 nations.

25,000 bureaucrats in attendance. Nothing will change. They will be back somewhere next year for another round of hot air.

Any time a city can host a convention of 25,000 flunkies on government expense accounts, you should assume they will do it.
