Did Trump’s father pull strings to keep him from being drafted? Very probably. As did Bush 41 for his son. Slick Willy also dodged the draft and I don’t recall the Times making a big deal out of it. Not saying any of it was right. But it was not unusual at the time. The bottom line is that it was almost a half century ago and it’s time to move on. I’ve got a few issues with all of the above listed POTUSes... how they evaded service in Nam aint on that list.

You know there has to be some work program that illegal male aliens in good health could be required to do while awaiting their asylum requests being processed. They could be housed in a tent city like Sheriff Arpaio did with prisoners. They may as well earn their keep. They had work programs during the depression to keep families in wages, there has to be something needing done now. No healthy individual should get a free ride.
Bush-43 was likable in person. But his Iraq war was a monstrous blunder. Without it, Iraq never falls to the Islamists, Libya never falls to ISIS, and we would have $6 Trillion LESS debt, not to mention Thousands of our young soldiers maimed and killed. I got my draft deferment honestly. I drew 360 for my draft number. As one student said to me (at the time), “They will draft women and children before you.”
