And I propose we declare war from now on. Enough of this AUOF. Thats a crock of shit.

IIRC, Bammy unconstitutional and secretly redirected guns we were sending to Libya to Syrian “rebels” and then he imprisoned an innocent man to cover it all up. (”It’s the video’s fault!”)

The only reason we are STILL in places like Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria is to keep Terrorist from reforming.
I say if the want to reform THEN we go back in.
People in these areas don't want our style of government. If they really did then THEIR sons and daughters should "Make Their Country Safe for Democracy"
As our forefathers said "We are the guarantors of our freedom"(not another)

Speaking for MY officer son who recently returned from Somalia, they are not there to stop ISIS or Al Shabab (however its spelled.). They are there to check the Chinese.
The Whole continent is a mess.

And this happened in August 1932, well before FDR, Gen Douglas MacArthur ignored Herbert Hoover's rather weak and two faced direction and put an end to the Bonus Army’s presence in DC. Hoover was beside himself because he knew the Dems would use the event against him in the election. The Dems provided enough votes to help the GOP floor managers to defeat the budget amendment to pay the veterans bonus’ early. Then sat back and enjoyed themselves.

I get that he was a nut. But was his essay incorrect? I dont know his background. So, I would be interested in hear an informed opinion in the context of the time.

Was your son in Somalia or Djibouti? There is a pretty large but rarely mentioned US military presence in the latter place. I wasn’t aware of any US uniformed personnel in Somalia. CIA yes.

Having won the war against ISIS, he does not want to lose the peace by getting into a military conflict with the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assads forces, or with the Iranians or the Russians, or even with the Turks for that matter.
*************
Note that when the article refers Syria, it uses “Syrian dictator Bashar” but wnen referring to Turkey, it uses “the Turks” rather than “the Turkish dictator Erdogan.”

Sorry, the plot that approached Butler wasn’t drunk bar room talk. He was approached by serious men. He carefully had it evesdropped on and documented by a newspaperman who reported it.
As for MacArthur attacking the bonus marchers, President Hoover directly ordered him to stop after clearing one side of the river. MacArthur deliberately ignored his direct presidential orders from Hoover and continued his shameful attack. That kind of insubordination and grandiose BS is why he was banished to the Pacific in WWII, and eventually fired by Truman.

I hear everyone in the military now prattling on about stopping the Chinese in Africa. Lots of friends keep trotting out that company line.

The ONLY reason we support the Saudis is the Petro dollar. If that collapses, we are screwed. Iran doesnt matter. Chopping up people doesnt matter. Their exported terrorism doesnt matter.
When that is examined and understood, the whole mess over there is easier to see for what it is.

Valerie Jarrett and Bill Ayers have been plotting a Muslim Brotherhood takeover of the Mideast for a long time.
And they haven't stopped because of any minor setbacks such as a total repudiation by the voting public.

The US, not unsuccessfully, applied military force in a number of Caribbean and Central American countries from 1900 to 1934. The strategic goal was to keep any European (read German) interlopers out of the region by the US guaranteeing stability and ensuring that foreign loans were payed (after a fashion) and debts serviced so that no European state had any complaint. This policy coincided with the withdrawal of most British naval assets from marginal areas that the FSL Fisher was driving in order to focus all naval resources on the battleship race with Germany. It is true some US financial institutions such as Brown Brothers had their financial interest protected along with other banks. The whole strategy seems to have worked reasonably well absent the BS that we were ‘protecting the integrity; of weak Latin governments. It also gave the Navy and the Marines a lot of useful experience in expeditionary warfare and provided excellent live fire training to many career Marines who applied their skills in France in 1917-18.

He was in DJ for about a month. Then he moved to Mogadishu for about nine months.
He described it in the same terms Trump used.

On July 1, 1933, Butler met with MacGuire and Doyle for the first time. FDR was already president when the JP Morgan inspired Business plot coup was being planned.
They wanted MacArthur because he would have easily gone along with a fascist model and a coup. But he was radioactive with veterans after he attacked the bonus marchers with cavalry using flats of swords, tanks, and vomit gas.
So they went to Butler who they thought might play ball.
Instead, he exposed them. And remember, at that time Mussolini and his fascism was considered the modern marvel and more than a few admired that approach.

Well, he was USA. He worked with a bunch of other people. For some reason he did not tell me much more than he got around a little.

Yes, and it continued into the 50s with the Dulles brothers and the CIA. We supported any despot as long as they would play ball with our bankers. We continue to see evidence of that “success” everyday, crossing our border by the millions.
Butler was right. It was a racket.
