As a former Canadian, now a U.S. citizen some 45 years, I like to tell people I acquired my citizenship the old fashioned way ... legally. A three year active duty stint in the U.S. Marines, during the Vietnam era, which made me eligible upon honorable discharge ... however, I waited a few years before going thru the citizenship application process.

The legal way is to apply in your home country, pay your fees, wait your turn, learn the language and comply with the law. It usually takes years.
